Control Resonant: Best Combo Finishers to unlock first

Rock Paper Shotgun » Guides✍ Grace Dean⏱ 6 min read(about 2 hours ago)

Overview & Key Takeaways

In Control Resonant, you'll be unsurprised to hear that your attack strategy is pretty important. And while you figure out which Aberrant Forms to choose first for both Primary and Secondary attacks, you'll also notice a tab in your menu for Combo Finishers.

Combo Finishers aren't ever really explained, but they're combo enders that usually do decent Falter damage and can queue up executions while dealing heavy damage. With six to choose from, you may be wondering which one(s) to unlock first. So, to help you make a decision, I've ranked the Combo Finishers from best to worst (though they're all rather good).

Control Resonant best Combo Finishers, ranked

Below, you'll find our personal ranking, from worst to best, of all the Combo Finishers. Remember, this is our personal opinion! However, I've certainly found that some combo finishers are far more powerful than others:

  1. Uppercut Surge
  2. Split Pivot
  3. Split Orbit
  4. Wide Edge
  5. Concussive Beatdown
  6. Spin Edge

6. Uppercut Surge

Uppercut Surge is the most niche offering of the Combo Finishers, and that's because it applies Lifted to your enemies. If you then hit said Lifted enemies, you recover extra Power. And, if you manage to charge the attack, you can also gain more Damage and Falter.

But, lifting enemies can actually make the situation a little more tricky. It's harder to dodge when you're hovering above the other enemies and, depending on the terrain, you may want to try and stay as grounded as possible. It's still got a lot to offer, but only if you're very into launching enemies.

5. Split Pivot

Split Pivot is an attack that embodies a circular blade capable of dealing 136-273 Damage and 9-22 Falter for a short time. And if you're into burning your enemies, the 4th and 5th path upgrades will deal out Fire Damage and Burn.

It's always good to charge up Falter to perform those all-important executions and obtain Dominance, and this will certainly help you do that. While there's nothing particularly wrong with this Combo Finisher, there are several better offerings for Dylan (and you).

4. Split Orbit

Another Split Combo Finisher, but this time it's Orbit. This one unleashes a blade around Dylan that flies around inflicting damage. It's great if you're battling enemies at short range, but certainly early on you'll be flying and dodging around, so I think it's best to save this Combo Finisher for a little later into the game, especially when you've gathered more resources to unlock upgrades.

3. Wide Edge

I'm a big fan of Wide Edge for its powerful, wide and long-range attack that deals out 426 Damage to your enemies, as well as pushing them away. This is great for hordes, especially if you find yourself surrounded by enemies, to just get them out of your face for a moment.

The only thing I'd say it's missing is a bit more of a Falter boost, only hitting for 16 Falter Damage. The only option to increase this is the 4th and 5th upgrades, adding Brutal Edge, a 10% chance to instantly Falter a Drone enemy and Savage Accumulation for 3% Falter for every enemy hit with the Primary Combo.

2. Concussive Beatdown

It's a battle for top spot amongst the Combo Finishers and our Guides writer, Callum, would certainly argue that this big boxing gloves move should claim the victory (and it's very close). Concussive Beatdown is a lovely little move that lets Dylan deal out a few quick strikes that deal 153-307 Damage and large amounts of Falter (47-78).

This is a seriously deadly Combo Finisher that can then act as a launching pad for dealing out even more Damage to other enemies off the back of the Falter boost. To me, the upgrades just don't feel as productive as the next choice.

1. Spin Edge

The top spot for Combo Finishers goes to Spin Edge. And that's down to the upgrades in its path. Not only does Spin Edge work great in the early hours of the game, as it delivers a continuous spin dealing 176 Damage to all nearby enemies, but you can add on Slash Synergy for recovering Power quicker and then Forceful Authority, which adds 25% Damage and Falter during Dominance.

Ideally, you'd have more Falter initially and continuously during attacks, but, to start with, you'll have weaker enemies and a whole lot of them, so Spin Edge is a great advantage.

How to unlock Combo Finishers

When visiting the Gap, you'll be able to access the Combo Finishers menu via the largest stone slab in the area. Here, you can choose between the six options to unlock, but it'll cost you 1 Living Shard for each pick. In exchange, you'll receive the main Combo Finisher as well as +5 to your Aberrant Strength Mulitplier.

You can only have one Combo Finisher equipped at a time, which you do via your Loadout menu in the Pause screen. This is easily switched between and accessible at all times.

Each Combo Finisher also has a tree of upgrades that'll cost you various resources from Distorted Forms, Source, Corrupted Elements, Warped Resonance and much more. It's definitely worth looking at each Combo Finisher's list of upgrades before committing to your choice.

So, that's the best Combo Finishers in Control Resonant, ranked. Before you go, why not check out our guides on the which Aberrant Form you should choose first, how to unlock SHÜM arcade cabinets, and the location of every single Mysterious Dog toy. But if none of those appeal, you can find all of our Control Resonant guides here.
