But it forms an important part of your playthrough, because the Forgotten Tower is the resting place of the Axatana, one of the strongest weapons in the game.

2. Explore below the tower.
Kill the Sheep in front of you for a Sheephead Totem, and rest at the sitting spot by the Bone Gate if you like. Now enter the tower through the doorway in front of you.

You can read the notes in this room if you like; one, beside the entrance, gives you some lore, while the other to the right indicates that there's a Nighttime secret here. But we'll leave the Nighttime secret for another part of the walkthrough, because you don't yet have what you need to benefit from it.
In this room there's a staircase downward below the tower. Head down it, and turn left around the corner at the bottom to find a Revered Gland.

You can head outside if you like, but all it leads to is a Bone Gate, which connects back to another part of the Silent Steps you've already visited. No need to go back there, so head back up the stairs into the ground floor of the tower.
Mark step as completed.
4. Acquire the Axatana.
Cross the bridge, and loot the Glimpse on the left edge towards the end. Atop the end platform, open the chest to obtain a Muradean Tome.

Now turn around and head back across the bridge, down the stairs, and back into the starting room. Head through the doorway with the Nighttime secret plaque, and up the steps.
At the top there's a map pinned on the wall, which alludes to three special items you need for the Nighttime secret here. These special items are unique Glands. You already have two: the Depleted Gland (from the Withered Shoals) and the Faded Gland (from the Faded Citadel). The third, we'll get to very soon.

Head through the gap in the wall at the top of these steps, and drop down to the platform below. Use the Bone Gate here to cross over to the grounds outside the other side of the Forgotten Tower.

Look around the tree nearest to you for another Weltcap, and then head around to the middle gate of the tower. Press the stone button to the left of the gate to open it, and head through.
Inside, you'll find the lone enemy of the Forgotten Tower - a simple Gloom Seeker. Kill her, and then loot the Axatana from the ledge behind her.

Many players - our Guides Writer Jeremy included - consider the Axatana to be the best weapon in Mortal Shell 2. Its fast light combos can transition pretty seamlessly into hefty heavy swings, and vice versa, making it very flexible, and a strong choice for taking into the endgame to deal with all manner of threats.
Personally, I prefer the Axe and Dagger, but that's because I tend to favour light attacks over heavy attacks, and I prefer to focus exclusively on that strength. However, I did upgrade the Axatana to the highest level, and enjoyed it for quite some time. But there's one weapon still to come which I prefer above all others. We'll get to it shortly!
