Final Fantasy VII Revelation And Its PS1-Style World Map Arrive In April

Final Fantasy VII Revelation finally has a release date: April 8, 2027. Square Enix confirmed the news today during the PlayStation State of Play livestream(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-state-of-play-september-2026-all-the-biggest-announcements-games-and-trailers/), along with nearly 10 minutes of new footage. The release date was confirmed via a trailer highlights all eight playable characters in the main party: Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Red XIII, Yuffie, Cait Sith, Vincent, and Cid. We also see gameplay of the team in action, including team-up abilities like Vincent's Galian Beast form rushing a group of enemies with Red XIII, and Tifa and Yuffie attacking from above with a dive kick/spinning shuriken combo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YHP48v7vyg From there, FF7 director Naoki Hamaguchi introduced an extended look at raw gameplay, which focused on traveling the massive world map. Invoking the original game's PlayStation 1 roots, the Highwind flies over the world of Gaia, and players can pilot it wherever they wish. Once they reach a location of interest, they can choose a party from any of the eight playable characters, and then parachute down to the surface instantly. The demo then dives into a side quest in Gongaga featuring Sotetsu, a character featured in a FF7 Rebirth side quest. Yuffie, knowing Sotetsu from that side quest, has a special interaction with him, implying that some missions may play out differently depending on the characters brought to complete them. Along with the news of Final Fantasy VII Revelation's April 8 release date, the Steam page for the game dropped a few hints on what is coming after launch, with listings for story expansions featuring two key characters(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ffvii-revelation-dlc-feature-sephiroth-and-vince-extending-the-story-into-2028/).

Ghost Of Yōtei Roguelike DLC Makes Jin From Ghost Of Tsushima Playable

!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/09/03/d1b9ecb3/yotei02.jpg.webp) Ghost of Yōtei, one of our favorite games from last year(https://gameinformer.com/best-of-2025/2025/12/16/the-top-ten-games-of-2025), is getting new content in October(https://gameinformer.com/2026/08/12/new-ghost-of-yotei-story-content-and-roguelike-mode-arriving-in-october). We already knew it would include new story content and a roguelike mode, but today's State of Play revealed our first look at gameplay. It also included a surprise – Jin Sakai, protagonist of Ghost of Tsushima, will be playable in the Most Wanted, the roguelike mode. It's become something of a tradition for PlayStation's first-party games to get roguelike DLC after launch. It happened with The Last of US Part II(https://gameinformer.com/ngt/2023/12/05/surviving-the-last-of-us-part-iis-roguelite-no-return-mode-new-gameplay-today), God of War: Ragnarök got a new story called Valhalla(https://gameinformer.com/opinion/2023/12/13/god-of-war-ragnaroks-valhalla-is-so-much-more-than-just-a-roguelite-dlc), and now Yōtei joins the pack with Most Wanted. This new mode pits players against waves of incoming enemies with customizable loadouts that can be altered with fun perks over time. One example has blades ignite in flame when under a certain HP total, while another summons wolves to attack after landing enough blows. Characters also have Ultimate abilities and Kill-Streaks, adding to the game's arcade vibe. Atsu, of course, is playable, but she'll be joined by Oyuki, Nagato, and as a fun surprise, Jin Sakai from Ghost of Tsushima. If the appearance of bosses outside of the story mode didn't tip you off, Jin's appearance confirms that none of this is canon. But we don't care one bit – it's fun to see him return. Each character spawns in with a different loadout, and we're curious to see how similarly Jin plays to his appearance in his original game. Most Wanted drops on October 1, alongside the other single-player expansion, Echoes of Skigahara. If you have the base version of Ghost of Yōtei, you can upgrade to the Complete Edition to get the new single-player content for $14.99. For more Yōtei, check out our review(https://gameinformer.com/review/ghost-of-yotei/action-and-vengeance-unbounded).

Jin Sakai Returns In Upcoming Ghost Of Yotei Roguelike DLC

Today, during the PlayStation State of Play livestream(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-state-of-play-september-2026-all-the-biggest-announcements-games-and-trailers/), Sucker Punch offered a look at Ghost of Yotei's upcoming roguelike mode, Most Wanted. The mode will feature four playable characters, and Yotei's Atsu, Oyuki, and Nagato will be joined by a familar face from the past: The Ghost of Tsushima, Jin Sakai, will officially return. Most Wanted, which the trailer calls a "combat survival mode," lets players choose one of the four samurai, each with their own weapons and abilities, to take them on a hunt for one of the Yotei Six. Each of the Six, if defeated, will offer a reward of coins that can then be spent to upgrade the samurai for future runs. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nlchabfwyw A new post on the official PlayStation Blog(https://blog.playstation.com/2026/09/03/jin-sakai-returns-in-ghost-of-yotei-most-wanted/) further explores the new mode, saying that the core of the mode lies in its Perks system. "As you progress through a run, you’ll frequently select between new perks including weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries, survivability, and more," the blog says. "These are the cornerstone of crafting the perfect build and lead to some of the most exciting surprises as you find the challenge or unexpected value that comes from mixing and matching perks. This new mode marks the first time Jin Sakai returns as a playable characters since his starring role in 2020's Ghost of Tsushima. The PS Blog post says that the development team made sure to "take his Ghost of Tsushima model and keep it faithful while also applying upgrades for Ghost of Yōtei," as he can use all four of his fighting stances from Ghost of Tsushima, as well as sticky bombs, the Dance of Wrath, and his Ghost stance. Ghost of Yotei's Echoes of Sekigahara expansion, as well as the Most Wanted roguelike mode, launch October 1. Players who own the base game can purchase a Complete Edition upgrade with the extra content, while new players can purchase Ghost of Yotei: Complete Edition with all content in one package.

Resident Evil Trailer Shows The Sequence Where Its Star Almost Died For Real🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platform

Resident Evil Trailer Shows The Sequence Where Its Star Almost Died For Real

During the September 3 State of Play(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-state-of-play-september-2026-all-the-biggest-announcements-games-and-trailers/), Sony debuted a new clip from the upcoming Resident Evil movie, and it was both dark and hilarious. That should be no surprise, as comedy and horror are naturally intertwined, and the movie is written and directed by sketch comedy veteran Zach Cregger. In the clip, we see Austin Abrams' character, the medical courier Bryan, running down a street in Raccoon City as zombies throw themselves off rooftops trying to catch him. They explode on impact, with blood flying everywhere. Bryan screams as he runs down the street amidst the carnage, uttering some hilarious noises and guttural screams. Check out the new footage below. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGlapnJFacE Cregger wanted to film this sequence practically instead of using CGI. The production team created 150-pound “body-sized blood bags”(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/resident-evil-movie-actor-nearly-died-during-filming-after-150-pound-blood-bag-almost-hit-him/) that were dropped from cranes to create the effect. One of the blood bags came close to striking Abrams, and Cregger said, “It would’ve killed him.” Bryan, according to Cregger, is an "idiot"(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/resident-evil-movie-follows-an-idiot-director-likens-story-to-lord-of-the-rings/) who finds himself in a horrifying situation and is just trying to survive. The entire movie feels like “one gigantic sequence,” Cregger said, adding that things begin to “pop off” five minutes into the movie–and it only ramps up from there. “It feels like one gigantic sequence,” he says. “Things pop off about five minutes in and it basically stays like that until the end. What I love about the games is that you move from set-piece to set-piece. Every location has a unique challenge. So again, I’m borrowing from the games directly in that rhythm, where you’re just running through a gauntlet.” The Resident Evil movie releases on September 18, and it's expected to have the biggest opening ever for a Resident Evil movie(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/resident-evil-could-have-its-biggest-opening-weekend-ever-with-its-new-movie/).

MMOs Have “Stagnated,” Guild Wars 3 Studio Head Says🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platform

MMOs Have “Stagnated,” Guild Wars 3 Studio Head Says

Guild Wars 3(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/guild-wars-3-is-real-and-its-coming-to-ps5-and-pc/) developer ArenaNet wants to try "wild, crazy ideas" in a genre that, according to its studio head, has "stagnated" in recent years. During a hands-off demo where early Guild Wars 3 gameplay(https://www.gamespot.com/?posttype=articles&p=1872675&previewid=1872675&previewnonce=51c6a82b58&preview=true&thumbnailid=1872684) was shown to members of the press, I asked ArenaNet studio head Colin Johanson about the state of the MMO genre in 2026 and what problems Guild Wars 3 is looking to solve. He had plenty to say on the subject. Many MMO players are still playing the same games they were 10-20 years ago, Johanson said, citing decade-old (or older) examples like World of Warcraft, The Elder Scrolls Online, Final Fantasy 14, and, of course, ArenaNet's own Guild Wars 2. In that same time, "minute-to-minute gameplay in MMOs has stagnated," even as other genres have modernized and become more approachable, he said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ITPzxITngqA That's "really good timing" for ArenaNet and Guild Wars 3, Johanson said, and one that presents a big opportunity for a new game to break in and shake up the scene. "There's been very little new in the last decade, and a lot of those newer games either don't exist anymore or were canceled in development before they made their way out," Johanson said. "We see MMO fans constantly clamoring for and asking for something new and saying this genre desperately needs something new to move it forward right now." Johanson certainly has a point. The biggest new MMOs of the last few years have been games like 2021's New World(https://www.gamespot.com/games/new-world/) or Korean MMOs like Lost Ark(https://www.gamespot.com/games/lost-ark/) and Throne and Liberty(https://www.gamespot.com/games/throne-and-liberty/), all originally tied to Amazon's game publishing arm. If nothing else, their launches showed how hungry MMO players are for a big new game in the space, with each title attracting hundreds of thousands of concurrent players in their first weeks, or in the case of Lost Ark, over 1.3 million(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/lost-ark-passes-1-3-million-concurrents-overtakes-cyberpunk-2077-dota-2-and-cs-go-to-become-steams-2nd-biggest-game-of-all-time/1100-6500630/). Flash forward to now, and Amazon is pulling out of the MMO business(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/amazon-will-soon-be-out-of-the-mmo-business-entirely/) entirely and shutting New World down(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/amazons-big-mmo-that-started-strong-is-shutting-down/1100-6537436/). Other prospective MMOs fans were eager to learn more about have also languished. Riot's planned League of Legends MMO(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/riot-hits-reset-on-league-of-legends-mmo-with-no-news-for-years-to-come/1100-6522053/) went back to the drawing board in 2024 after years of development, even as the former executive producer of that project's next new MMO also got canceled(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/netease-shutters-mmo-studio-led-by-former-wow-veteran-after-two-years/1100-6535899/). ESO is being scaled back amidst layoffs, with a sci-fi MMO codenamed Project Blackbird(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/canceled-project-blackbird-may-have-been-perfect-replacement-for-destiny-insider-says/) from the same studio getting canceled before ever being officially announced. Another promising MMO that raised $3 million onKickstarter, Ashes of Creation, imploded(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/new-mmorpg-ashes-of-creation-in-turmoil-amid-staff-resignation-and-layoff-warnings/1100-6537833/) earlier this year following the resignation of its game director and an ongoing legal battle. It's a grim state of affairs for MMO fans, but Johanson said there is an opportunity to make a MMO that looks to solve the genre's approachability problem and overcome the perception they are "second jobs" many players don't have time for. For him, that means making a game where meaningful progress can be made in shorter play sessions, you can play with a controller, and prep time is massively cut down. "For many gamers today, where we have so many different games to pick from and our time is more challenged than ever in how much time we have to play any individual game, if you don't have a couple of hours available, you're just not going to play an MMO and you're going to play other genres that are more approachable and can be played in quicker sessions," Johanson said. He said it also means designing a MMO where it's okay to have a "healthy relationship" with the game, one where players can take breaks between expansions and not feel like they've been completely left behind. Being more approachable is about more than just attracting a wider audience, he said. It's also about making it more approachable for MMO fans who have busy real-life schedules and more game options than ever before. "You can set this game down and go play a bunch of other games and come back when the next expansion comes out and that's okay," Johanson said. "That's a totally healthy relationship to have with a game, and we don't need to demand that you be in this game 24/7 to stay relevant and to stay up with everybody else." Johanson's comments line up with a blog post he penned shortly after Guild Wars 3 was announced. In it, he said the goal is to make a game that respects players' time and investment and can be enjoyed by those who only have a few hours a week to play. In that same blog, Johanson said Guild Wars 3 won't have a subscription fee(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/guild-wars-3-wont-have-hidden-subscriptions-like-battle-passes/), nor what he described as "hidden" subscriptions like battle passes. Guild Wars 3 doesn't currently have a release date but will release for PC and PlayStation 5. A beta is slated to begin Fall 2027.

PlayStation State Of Play September 2026: All The Biggest Announcements, Games, And Trailers

Sony's September State of Play broadcasts have wrapped up, and these were a pretty chunky look at a wide variety of games. Some of the highlights included an April 2027 release date for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation(https://www.gamespot.com/games/final-fantasy-vii-revelation/), a sneak peek at the Resident Evil movie, and a stacked selection of games being developed by Asian studios. While we didn't get to see any new trailers for upcoming PS5 games like God of War Laufey and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, the show still had plenty of new games to show off, confirmed release dates, and more. In case you missed it, you can scroll below to check out all the trailers and announcements. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAZRFyFQPa4 Resident Evil https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGlapnJFacE And we're off, not with a game reveal, but with a scene from the live-action Resident Evil movie. Austin Abrams' character, Bryan, has found himself in a seemingly deserted street in Raccoon City, but it's not long before infected members of the town are literally hurling themselves at him from rooftops--and yes, there's a LOT of blood. The film is out soon on September 18. Marvel's Wolverine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyYL1WRnZo Ahead of its September 15 release, one more trailer for Marvel's Wolverine was revealed. The main focus here was Bolivar Trask's mutant-hunting program, which led to the creation of the infamous Sentinel robots. Ghost of Yotei https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nlchabfwyw Up next was Ghost of Yotei, and fans looking to test their mettle--and their metal--can get ready for a new hardcore roguelite survival mode in single-player. You can play as several characters from Ghost of Yotei and Ghost of Tsushima's protagonist, Jin. It'll be available starting October 1. Maneater 2 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JN7bn4eaoJc We're going to need a bigger boat! Lego PlayStation https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FB8SIlnd6c That rumored Lego PlayStation set is real! Based on the iconic console, the set has over 1,900 pieces, is a 1:1 replica, and has multiple diorama scenes inside it. Final Fantasy Resonance https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZvZYwQdXN8 There sure are a lot of games out this year with a Resonance theme in their title, aren't there? A new trailer for Final Fantasy Resonance showed off more of the HD-2D game in action, including a boss battle against Final Fantasy 7 baddie Sephiroth. I guess no single game can contain the best antagonist in video game history. A demo for Final Fantasy Resonance is also now available. Gundam: Rogue Orbit https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbTZpgq19ew Gundam doesn't have the best track record when it comes to video games, but could Gundam: Rogue Orbit change all that? The release date was also revealed, and you can expect to step into your Gundam on March 5, 2027. First up is Keeper, its charming adventure starring a sentient, mobile lighthouse on a mission of discovery. It's available starting today for PS5. Rev. Noir https://youtu.be/7feaOQVG5aE It wouldn't be a State of Play without an action-packed anime-inspired game, and Rev. Noir looks like it fits that bill. This RPG from Konami follows a young boy named Asch on a journey to stop the lightfall, a catastrophe that kills all it touches. And here's a story trailer. https://youtu.be/PXmX1PXvDtA Rhapsody in Scarlet https://youtu.be/DnMPeZDKiNk Another new game from Konami is Rhapsody in Scarlet, a jazzy adventure set in 1920s New York. As the young magus Ellie Myers, it's up to you to stop a threat that endangers the entire world--and we're not talking about the proliferation of horrible jazz music. "The Mafia has magic?" might just be one of the funniest lines of 2026. It was uttered in the story trailer for Rhapsody in Scarlet, and you can check it out below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX6krDoXK8 PlayStation Plus updates Mycopunk will be added to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium subscribers. The PlayStation Classics library is also being updated over the next couple of months, as Mega Man X Command Mission, Dino Crisis 2, and Ratchet and Clank will be added to it. The game will feature more than 130 characters, including non-playable characters, from whom you can learn skills to build the ultimate warrior. Fate/Extra Record https://youtu.be/nr5-XGIkbg4 I'm not going to pretend that the naming convention for the Fate series games makes any sense, but they continue to look like fun RPGs. This is a remake of the first Fates game, which originally debuted in 2010, and it includes an expanded scenario, completely overhauled character graphics, and a highly strategic, deck-building, dramatic command battle system, all on top of enhanced visuals. It's out on January 28, 2027. Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World https://youtu.be/9nrXc0-vm8 Need a Pokemon-like game on PS5? Rematch Season 5: Blue Lock https://youtu.be/MLDGArmX0Tw One of the best soccer games that you can play today, Rematch, is teaming up with the hit sports anime series Blue Lock. Sony Warns PlayStation Customers Against Harassing Support Staff Amid Disc Backlash

Sony's decision to kill off PlayStation game discs(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstations-disc-based-game-sales-have-dropped-dramatically-in-recent-years/) has been met with almost universal disdain since it was first announced, and it looks like its employees have been caught in the crossfire. Just about every Sony announcement or social media post is met with calls for it to reverse its decision, and Sony Japan has instituted a new anti-harassment policy to protect the customer service employees who have had to deal with a vocal contingent of dissatisfied consumers. These changes also align with new workplace laws in Japan that will take effect later this year. "Similar to other companies in Japan, Sony Interactive Entertainment has published its policy in compliance with a new law taking effect on October 1, which requires employers in Japan to implement measures to address customer harassment," Sony said in response to GameSpot. According to the policy(https://www.playstation.com/ja-jp/support/customer-harassment/), Sony will restrict people who "exceed what is considered reasonable" when interacting with customer service, including "unreasonable demands" for compensation or apologies. Abusive language, threats, and "forcing someone to prostrate themselves" can also get you cut off from the help desk, as will visiting offices or related facilities without permission. Sony added that it will work with the police and lawyers, if necessary, to protect its employees. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FatSqS3VYY&t=19s&pp=0gcJCRoMAYcqIYzv While customer service workers are currently dealing with backlash over Sony's decision to focus on an all-digital future, the company has also been criticized for several more recent actions. Sony responded to a class action lawsuit(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/sonys-digital-game-ownership-argument-is-another-attack-on-consumer-rights/) in which it was accused of not clearly informing consumers that its digital store sells game licenses, not full games. Various publishers have also accused Sony of anti-competitive moves and of working toward creating a monopoly through its digital storefront. Sony will pay out nearly $8 million to PlayStation customers as part of a settlement over digital game prices. Even with all of that bad press, the company is still moving "cautiously forward"(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-defends-going-digital-but-says-it-understands-players-love-of-physical-ps5-games/) with its plan to end game disc production, as no amount of negative comments or week-long boycotts has convinced Sony to change its mind. Expect a flood of comments highlighting this during this week's back-to-back State of Play livestreams(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/back-to-back-playstation-state-of-plays-are-coming-this-week/).

Sony To Pay Out Nearly $8 Million In Class-Action Settlement Over Game Prices

Sony is set to pay out nearly $8 million to PlayStation customers as part of a settlement regarding digital game prices. The settlement (via IGN(https://www.ign.com/articles/playstation-is-set-to-pay-out-785-million-to-users-as-part-of-class-action-lawsuit)) comes after Sony's motion to dismiss the lawsuit was denied, and settlement class members across a more-than-four-year period are potentially eligible for a payment. The lawsuit, originally filed back in 2024(https://psndigitalgamessettlement.com/media/f2sbfoy2/0190-2024-12-13-second-amended-consolidated-complaint.pdf), alleged that Sony established a monopoly over PlayStation Store prices by making publishers "cede control over the final price to Sony" and that Sony "eliminated the last vestiges of price competition when it stopped allowing outside retailers to sell digital download codes that could be redeemed on the PlayStation Store." Sony is not agreeing to wrongdoing(https://psndigitalgamessettlement.com/faqs/) as part of the settlement, and will be avoiding a civil trial if the terms are agreed upon by the court. Once that happens, the claims against Sony will be dismissed "with prejudice," meaning another lawsuit on the subject cannot be filed. You are potentially eligible for a payout if you purchased one of the affected games via the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019 and December 31, 2023. Dozens of games(https://psndigitalgamessettlement.com/media/qeefysnv/0219-06-2026-02-26-exhibit-e-list-of-eligible-games-and-plan-of-allocation.pdf) are listed in the official court documents, including Nier: Automata, Resident Evil 4, The Last of Us Remastered, and Vita games like Uncharted: Golden Abyss and Killzone: Mercenary.
