Zach Cregger speaks at Collider's "Directors on Directing" panel in Hall H during 2026 Comic-Con International: San Diego at San Diego Convention Center on July 23, 2026 in San Diego, California.

"1917. But like it's completely different in tone. But that is structurally maybe the closest.

It's like if Evil Dead 2 and 1917 were it's parents, but that doesn't feel right. Like if those movies loved each other very much." (via Rotten Tomatoes).

Yeah, I totally see that. The link to 1917 hadn't even crossed my mind while I was sat stress-eating popcorn watching Cregger's Resident Evil film over the weekend, but it is probably the closest comparison to another film due to the fact that 1917 and Resident Evil both give the vibes of one continuous shot.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I have to stress just how cool it was to watch the film unfold as if it were one long questline that progresses exactly like it would if it were in a game. Getting to see Bryan's little slice of Resident Evil was an absolute treat.
