Rayman Legends Retold Officially Delayed Less Than a Month Before Release

This fall is going to be one of the busiest seasons for game releases in recent memory. Grand Theft Auto 6 is the biggest title, but hardly the only one. Yet among the dozens of games set to launch in the coming months, only one is from Ubisoft. That would be Rayman Legends Retold, a remake of the 2013 original. Now, the game has been delayed.

The good news is that Rayman Legends Retold is still set to be released in 2026, unlike several other games that were delayed into 2027. In a post on X, Ubisoft announced a new release date of Dec. 3. That's two months later than the initial Oct. 1 date, which had been just over two weeks away. The Rayman dev team explained the delay by writing that, "While the game has officially gone gold, we have decided to take extra time to make sure every detail gets the care it deserves."

To help make the longer wait a little more bearable, a new game overview trailer will be released on Sept. 22. That same day, a new round of hands-on impressions will also be shared by press and other creators.

Why is Rayman Legends being remade?

Despite being over a decade old, the original Rayman Legends remains the most recent console game in the series and is readily available to play. Ubisoft chose to remake it for a couple of reasons. Brand manager Loïc Gounon told Polygon that the team wanted to make something relatively quick that could be qualitative and manage to please old fans while introducing new people to the franchise as well. "That's why it led us naturally to Legends, because of how complete it is as a game." he explained.

Gounon also cited the desire to update and fix some of the problems from the original release. To that end, the game has been substantially reimagined, and a new final world has been added to give Rayman Legends Retold a stronger finale. Hopefully, the extra two months will help realize the team's full vision.
