Mortal Shell 2: Lonesome Spire walkthrough (Part 20)
Overview & Key Takeaways

The Lonesome Spire is a large tower located to the south of the Deserted Slums. You've already passed close by this tower previously in our Mortal Shell 2 walkthrough, but now it's time to conquer it in full.
The Lonesome Spire contains a great many Brigands, as well as a dungeon, boss, and new Sidearm. Once you find your way to the top, it also becomes the location of an NPC's questline. All this and more we'll cover in our step-by-step Lonesome Spire walkthrough below.

1. Conquer the Spoiled Mortuary.
From the Gate Of Mammon Beacon, turn around and head up the steps to the right; the steps you went up previously which led to the Besieged Ruins.

Kill all the Brigands and Wretches here again, and then head between the steps and the bridge to find a dungeon entrance, guarded by a Headsman. Kill the Headsman and enter the Spoiled Mortuary.
Down the elevator, collect the Laterite in the corridor and proceed a few steps further - at which point you'll be ambushed by a Ravenous Flesh. Dodge its initial grab and kill it, then head into the next room.
Kill the next Flesh lying in wait on the floor, and open the chest behind it for a Coin Of Mammon and a Gloombound Stone.

Strike the inset wall to your left, dispelling it. Behind it is a throne you can loot for a Dorsalite.
That's it for this mini-dungeon, so head back the way you came. Back in the overworld, the bridge (as you know) leads to the Besieged Ruins, and the steps lead into a back area of the Lonesome Spire, but we'll leave it for the time being and head round to the front.
Mark step as completed.
2. Cross over to the Lonesome Spire Beacon.
Go back to the Gate Of Mammon Beacon, rest if needed, and then turn around and head down the pathway through the archway guarded by the Tarblighted Miner.
Take the right-hand path past the archway. This narrow route leads you directly back to the Lonesome Spire Beacon you discovered some time ago, at the start of our Deserted Slums walkthrough.
Mark step as completed.
3. Return to Vlas and speak with him.
You can skip this part if you already spoke with Vlas and reached the point where he said he would pack up and move on. But otherwise: now is a great time to prompt this conversation.

Rest at the Lonesome Spire Beacon, fast travel to the Outskirts Of Mammon, and run straight past everyone until you're on the Road To Absolution bridge. Then drop off the left-hand side early on into the bridge. This is the fastest way to get to Vlas's camp.
Exhaust Vlas's dialogue until he tells you he's moving on. Then make your way back to the Outskirts Of Mammon Beacon (or any other Beacon) and fast travel back to the Lonesome Spire.
Mark step as completed.
4. Acquire the Unremarkable Key.
Turn back to the narrow route you just took before to get to the Beacon from the Gate Of Mammon. This time take the right-hand route down the slope. Go straight on, killing any Ravenous Fleshes in your way. On your left, you'll see an elevator that you passed by previously. Take this elevator to the top.

Follow the wooden platform around the wall, and collect the Common Moonshine on the hanging platform at the corner. Keep heading up to the top, and destroy the crates on your left for a 250x Coin Pouch.
Opposite the Coin Pouch, ascend the stone steps and turn right. Loot the Common Moonshine by the barrels in the corner. Then, destroy the wooden wall right next to you. Inside here you'll find an Unremarkable Key on the floor, and a Laterite in the stone slab.

Ignore the path forward for now - it takes you to the very top of the Lonesome Spire, which we'll find a different way up to shortly. Head back down the way you came, down the elevator, and back to the Lonesome Spire Beacon.
Mark step as completed.
6. Do a full circuit of the Spire.
Head into the next room and kill the lone Brigand within. On the left is another doorway blocked by crates. Destroy them so you can reach the 100x Coin Pouch and the 500x Coin Pouch hidden behind them.
Continue on, killing the next Brigand and turning the corner into the next room (with yet another Brigand to kill). At this point the path diverges. First, take the left-hand path through the doorway.
Proceed down this path, killing first a Brigand and then a Knave on the way. Head through the gap in the wall to the left of the Knave, and out onto a platform leading around the edge of the Spire.
Down here, you'll find an Armed Knave, and a 50x Coin Pouch by some nearby boxes. On the ground level, there's also a Headsman and a Subjugated Sentry to kill.

The left-hand path wraps back around to the Lonesome Spire Beacon, while the path out to the southeast leads to an entirely new region. We're not quite ready for that, so just remember its location for now, around the side of the Lonesome Spire.
Head back up the steps and follow the path back to the room where you took the left-hand path. Now, take the right-hand path. Kill the Sentry in your way, and follow the path around until you see a Knave and two Crossbowmen.

For reference: this is where you would have come up had you taken those steps up from the Spoiled Mortuary. The steps are just to your left here.
Kill the enemies ahead of you, and loot the 500x Coin Pouch on your left, next to the steps. Push ahead through the doorway at the far end, killing another Brigand in the way. Head through the next couple of rooms, and you'll see a dungeon entrance on your right.
Before you go down it, poke your nose out through the doorway just ahead, and you'll realise you're back where you started this big circuit of the Lonesome Spire.
Mark step as completed.
7. Conquer the Sentry's Grave.
Head through the fog and into the Sentry's Grave dungeon. Be careful entering the first room beyond the elevator. There are two Subjugated Sentries on your left, one in each corner.
Close the distance to one, and put it between you and the other so that you have a meat shield. Kill them both, and check around the corner behind the far Sentry for a Ventrium.
Proceed into the next corridor. Around the corner are two more Sentries to kill. At the end of the path, break the wooden wall on your left. Loot the 250x Coin Pouch on your left side, and head down the steps into the room in front of you.

Kill the two Brigands in this room, and press the stone button beside the gate at the far wall. The gate will open, allowing you to slaughter all the Wretches behind it and loot the Ventrium in the room.
Now turn around and take the left-hand path partially up the steps. Follow the grate-floor path around the perimeter of the room, killing the Sentries in your way.

Before you go through the doorway into the next room: turn back and strike the centre of the right-hand wall. The (illusory) wall will disappear, revealing a side passage filled with iron maidens.
Head past the iron maidens and kill the two Sentries ahead of you. Loot the Dorsalite at the end of the path, and then turn left and kill another Sentry on the edge of a wooden platform. Loot the Laterite on the floor, and head back the way you came. You can open the iron maidens if you like; they don't contain anything.
Now head through into the next main room, and immediately turn left to reach the left-hand side, where another Sentry needs killing. Head into the corridor beside the Sentry, kill the Brigand there, and head to the end of the path and kill the final Sentry around the corner.
Now that you've cleared out every Sentry which would have been shooting at you constantly from either side, head down the main path of this penultimate room, and straight into the boss arena at the end. Here you'll be confronted by the Subjugated Guardian.
The most dangerous thing about this fight is that there are also two Sentries at the sides, firing down upon you. Ignore the boss at first, and use the steps up to those higher side ledges to take out the Sentries as quickly as possible.
Then you can focus on the Subjugated Guardian itself. Once you're in melee range of it, the only real difference it has from a regular Sentry is that with each headbutt, it also generates a small shockwave on the ground which hits you even if you parry the headbutt itself. For this reason, just dodge backwards instead of parrying, and you'll find the fight to be an easy one.
Once you defeat the Subjugated Guardian, you'll be well rewarded with a brand new Sidearm: the Ballistazooka. This powerful Sidearm has more in common with the Salvaged Trebuchaxe than the Forgotten Crossbow: slow-firing, very powerful shots, and not many of them. As a note: you can purchase three Ballistazooka-specific Tarstones from the Collector by the Abandoned Outpost Beacon at Night.
That's everything in this dungeon, so you can now use the glowing orb at the end of the arena to return to the overworld.
Mark step as completed.
8. Trade with the Brigand.
Exiting the dungeon, turn left and head back through those last couple of rooms, until you're outside at the point where you fought the Knave and the Crossbowmen.
Ahead of you there's a set of steps leading further up. Take the steps, and kill the two Brigands in your way. Follow the path to the very top, the roof of the Lonesome Spire.
Do a quick clockwise circuit around the outside of the roof, and you'll find a Dorsalite on a throne. Then enter the campsite in the centre, and a Brigand NPC will greet you with his shop.
Speak with the Brigand and he'll say everything's for sale, except the cat. Sure enough, Vlas's poor cat Mutton is inside the cage behind the Brigand. As long as you exhausted Vlas's dialogue up to the point he said he was moving on, you'll also see Vlas himself inside the larger cage beyond Mutton.
You can free Vlas, but doing so will remove the Brigand's shop forever. So first, trade with the Brigand and buy anything you want. Here's the full list of items he has for sale:
- 10x Tarspore (20x Coin each)
- 10x Burnt Effigy (500x Coin each)
- 10x Bloodseed (500x Coin each)
- 10x Galvanic Shard (500x Coin each)
- 3x Laterite (650x Coin each)
- 1x Dorsalite (1200x Coin)
- 1x Glimpse (500x Coin)
I'd personally purchase the Laterite, Dorsalite, and Glimpse, but the others aren't strictly necessary (though you can of course clear those out too).
Mark step as completed.
9. Free Vlas with the Unremarkable Key.
Once you've finished trading, step past the Brigand and speak with Vlas inside his cage. Keep speaking with him until finally you give him the Unremarkable Key.
You can also inspect numerous items around the camp to hear some extra (unimportant) dialogue from Vlas.
Mark step as completed.
10. Reload the area.
Now you need to reload the area. The fastest way to do this (without doing any sort of scummy game-quitting) is to head out the doorway to the right as you exit the camp, and follow the path down to the Lonesome Spire Beacon.
Rest at the Beacon, and then make your way all the way back up to the roof again. Now, you'll see that the entire camp is deserted. No Vlas, no Mutton, and no Brigands. You can loot the dead bodies for a tiny bit of Gloom, but after that, just return to the Beacon again.

Mark step as completed.
11. Find Vlas in Marrow Keep.
The final step in this quest is to return to the Marrow Keep. Head through the right-hand doorway from the Beacon (or head out just past Merrick's shop), and you'll find Vlas and Mutton standing near the Slayer Seal.
Speak with Vlas and he'll give you a final Coin Of Mammon as a reward for helping him and Mutton. From now on, you can find Vlas here, and Mutton at various places throughout the Marrow Keep. You now have a cat! Yay!
Mark step as completed.
Now that everything else in this western region of Mammon has been well and truly cleansed and conquered, it's time to return to the Gate Of Mammon and delve into your fourth legacy dungeon, the home of a most frightful major boss.
