Overview & Key Takeaways

Daman Mills is the new voice actor for Kanji Tatsumi in Persona 4 Revival

During the past PAX West panel for Persona 4 Revival, Atlus showed off the sizzle reel trailer for Kanji Tatsumi, one of the game's most-discussed characters. While this role has previously been portrayed by Troy Baker and Matt Mercer, Atlus' latest Persona remake will feature a brand-new voice actor for Kanji.

Who is the new voice actor for Kanji Tatsumi?

Daman Mills has been confirmed as the new voice actor for Kanji Tatsumi. Mills is best known for being the current voice of Frieza in the Dragon Ball franchise, but has also portrayed characters in games like Borderlands 3, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Yakuza Kiwami 3.

He has worked with Atlus quite a bit in the past too, voicing Aogami in Shin Megami Tensei 5, Madam Ginko in Soul Hackers 2, Takaya Sakaki in Persona 3 Reload, and Auch in Unicorn Overlord. Considering Atlus is recasting everyone for this remake, it's not too surprising they called upon Daman Mills to voice this Persona 4 character.

Kanji Tatsumi is an important character for this remake to get right. Not only has he been voiced by Troy Baker and Matt Mercer, two of the industry's most iconic voice actors, but he's also an early example of a prominent video game character really exploring their gender identity in-game. While there's some controversy surrounding how other characters like Yosuke treat Kanji in Persona 4, this remake will address that.

"While he has a more masculine-leaning approach with, like, his whole identity, he also has some femininity to him as well that I really like and admire," Mills said of Kanji during the panel. "Though, I think for Kanji, it leads to some insecurities overall within the story, and for him, it makes him a little bit afraid because it's not necessarily a social norm. But we gradually see him sort of progress through that within the story and sort of face those trials and growth, and it has just been such an incredible thing to experience, and I really enjoy the character very much."

Persona 4 Revival will be released for PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on Feb. 18, 2027. It'll be available on Game Pass from day one.
