Overview & Key Takeaways

Final Fantasy 7 Revelation developers reveal details about Cid and Vincent, the FITS System, and advise a spoiler-free experience.

In a Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy panel at PAX West, game director Naoki Hamaguchi and battle director Teruki Endo went into detail about Cid, Vincent, and the FITS combat system that's new in Final Fantasy 7 Revelation. They also briefly touched on how they hope players don't spoil the game for themselves or look to others for a definitive explanation of what happened.

During a panel, a presentation slide about the series' conclusion directly stated, "We hope you experience the climax as something that's not explained to you by someone else, but rather, as something that belongs to you."

Final Fantasy 7 devs deep-dive into the FITS system and new playable characters

The Final Fantasy 7 Revelation battle system stands out in the trilogy due to the introduction of Cid and Vincent and the brand-new FITS system. At PAX West, Teruki Endo went over each of these implementations, giving players an idea of the versatility of each character, FITS selection, and how much it will impact gameplay.

Cid wields a magical lance that can impale multiple opponents at once, and he's an aerial ace that hits harder while airborne. This sets him apart from other party members and makes him perfect for long-range, aerial combat. Vincent uses a gun that suits mid-range combat. He is also a close-range combat master due to his Galian Beast transformation, which allows him to perform a series of melee attacks at any time.

The FITS system assigns new traits to characters that greatly influence their battle style. There are four FITS in total, with each focusing on a combat specialty. Warrior is a FITS intended for offensive play styles, as it promotes more aggressive combat and expands characters' signature abilities. Knight is a defensive FITS that focuses on party support, allowing players to draw attention to themselves and deal great damage to enemies, thus protecting their allies.

Black Mage is an offensive FITS that allows players to rapidly cast powerful spells using elemental magic. Summoner unlocks Summon Commands that make it possible for players to control many of their Summon's actions and deliver devastating, synced attacks. Depending on the FITS that players pick for a character, their outfit will change, although the developers confirmed that players can freely pick their character's outfit skin regardless of their chosen FITS specialty.

While wrapping up the panel, Hamaguchi spoke about the long journey that fans have been on with the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. It will soon reach its conclusion, which is why he made a point of reminding fans to experience the ending for themselves rather than look up spoilers.

"And that's why, at the very end, rather than having us as developers explain the answers, we would love for players to receive them on their own as their own personal experience. The reunions we've built up throughout the trilogy, the bonds with our companions, and the final resolve. All of this leads to this moment โ€” the third title. We truly hope that you all experience these final moments while carrying in your hearts the journey and the feelings that you've built up along the way."

Final Fantasy VII Revelation will be released for Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series S on April 8, 2027.
