Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game gets delay hours before launch

Polygon RSS FeedElijah Gonzalez3 min read(about 2 months ago)

Overview & Key Takeaways

Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game's Xbox port is delayed until September and the Switch version won't have crossplay at launch.

Roughly 13 hours before its launch, Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game’s X account delivered some tough news for would-be benders. The Xbox version of the Avatar: The Last Airbender fighting game is being delayed until September, and the Nintendo Switch version won’t have cross-play at launch. The game’s PlayStation 5 and Windows PC releases won’t be affected.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature, we will now launch by Sept. 3 (on Xbox). Existing pre-orders will remain active and will not be canceled,” the post reads. At this point, Xbox players are probably used to this kind of punishment when it comes to fighting games. It's the console most likely to be skipped, with games like Guilty Gear Strive taking two additional years to come to the console. The Sony-published Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is only coming to PlayStation 5 and PC at launch. Still, even with past disappointments, it’s relatively surprising that this news came so close to release.

The Xbox delay is a blow for those on other systems because it means the game’s total player base will be smaller at launch, which can be deadly for fighting games. The fact that the Switch version won’t have cross-play at launch will only compound this problem. Another issue with the Switch release is that only the Standard Edition will be available at launch. The Deluxe Edition includes a digital art book, original soundtrack, and, most importantly, the game’s Year 1 Pass for DLC characters. The Switch version will also only be localized in English. The team hopes to fix these issues in the future.

These announcements aren’t the only evidence that Avatar Legends is coming in quite hot. In the pre-release version of the game we played for review, three of the game’s 12 characters received significant animation and gameplay reworks up until release. In an interview with YouTuber Maximilian Dood, the game’s developers said that Avatar Aang and Nightmare Korra, alternate versions of these protagonists with unique moves, will receive a bit more work in the future.

Similarly, Ozai still had placeholder animations in the final pre-release version we played, receiving a major gameplay rework almost immediately before launch. While Avatar Aang and Nightmare Korra already distinguish themselves from their clone counterparts, and Ozai has potential, it’s unusual for there to be such significant character changes this close to the wire. It's quite possible compromises were made to avoid delaying the game so it could release alongside the series' new well-received movie, Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender, which also comes out today.Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game’s bending duels are a blast, but it’s a bit disappointing that Avatar fans on Xbox and Switch won’t be able to experience everything it has to offer at launch.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Extended Gameplay Look Highlights Wutai, Highwind Exploration, Queen's Blood, Side Quests, And More

!Final Fantasy VII Revelation April 8 2027 Release Date PlayStation 5 Xbox Series X/S Nintendo Switch 2 PC(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/09/03/d8c25029/ff701.jpg.webp) Square Enix has released another trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation(https://gameinformer.com/product/final-fantasy-vii-revelation), this time a whopping 10-minute look at the game's characters, story, setting, and so much more. Plus, the trailer also revealed that Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC on April 8, 2027. The trailer begins by highlighting each playable party member alongside new looks at the game's expanded combat, then breaks to reveal the April 8 release date. After that, director Naoki Hamaguchi(https://gameinformer.com/sgf-2026/2026/06/12/we-asked-final-fantasy-vii-revelation-director-naoki-hamaguchi-whats-next-for) appeared on camera to introduce the rest of the trailer, and we learn more about how Cloud and Co. will jump from the Highwind airship and parachute down to the planet below, Fortnite-style. Once on the ground, you can hop onto your trusty chocobo and sprint/glide/fly around as far as the eye can see. Plus, this chocobo can be an active participant in combat now, and of course, you can also just hop off and fight with your character's weapons, too. Check out the release date trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation below: For the uninitiated, the FITS (Function-Integrated Tactical Suitware) system is the new addition to Revelation's combat, and it's basically this game's Job system, allowing different party members to slot into various classes like warrior, black mage, and more. You can access your party's FITS on the Highwind, which is your base of operations in Revelation. To head to a new location, pilot the Highwind there in real time, and when you're ready to jump, hop on out and parachute down to the ground below. You'll be bringing the Highwind to returning locations like Junon and new ones, too, like Wutai, Yuffie's ninja-centric homeland. This trailer offered a great look at Wutai, which looks like a fantastical take on feudal Japan, and Yuffie's grapple gun makes traversing its towering buildings a breeze. In addition to Wutai, Revelation features several new areas, such as Rocket Town, though the trailer stops short of showing it. However, the trailer does bring us back to Gongaga, which first appeared in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Here, Square Enix explains that side quests in locations like Gongaga will reveal more about what's happening in the world, including the whereabouts of other characters from the wider Final Fantasy VII universe of games and media. Strangely, Revelation lets you to speed up cutscenes by 2x, allowing you to blitz through narrative moments (though I'm not sure why you would do that outside of, potentially, repeated playthroughs). It turns out, side quests and the unfolding narratives associated with them will change based on who you are controlling in the party. Cissnei reacts differently when working with Vincent, for example, versus Yuffie, but Square Enix says players can discover that in April. One of the best parts of Rebirth, the optional but incredible Queen's Blood card game, returns in Revelation. This time, Red XIII is the protagonist of this Queen's Blood saga, and during his adventure, he'll encounter powerful opponents that turn standard bouts on their heads. To close out the trailer, Hamaguchi asks that players get through Final Fantasy VII Remake and Rebirth ahead of Revelation's launch in April. Final Fantasy VII Revelation hits PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC on April 8, 2027. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 Is Out This October With A Very Special Guest

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/warhammer-40000-boltgun-2-announced-very-unexpected-spin-off-out-now/1100-6531732/) is one of the most highly anticipated games in the entire Warhammer franchise, and we'll be able to play it very soon. Even better, it's going to feature a guest appearance by one of the most legendary composers in the history of first-person shooters. On October 14, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 will release across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a Switch 2 release to follow "shortly after" the other versions, according to the official announcement. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lRCcxzt-j8A If you like the tune blasting in the game's release-date trailer, there's a good reason for that: Mick Gordon(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/after-a-decade-of-waiting-mick-gordon-is-finally-performing-doom-live/) of Doom and Wolfenstein fame is responsible. His composition is described as a "cameo" appearance and will play during the final boss fight. If that doesn't get you pumped to slay the enemies of the Emperor, nothing will. Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 expands on the first game's boomer-shooter action, letting you play as either Ultramarine Malum Caedo like in the first game or as Battle Sister Nyra Veyrath. You'll be going up against the daemonic demigod Vashtorr as well as countless other enemies, and if it's anything like the first game, you can expect to be turning lots of them into tiny pieces of bloody flesh. The first game was also brutally difficult, and we expect the sequel to follow suit.
