🎮 PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Multi-platformTwo Nintendo Directs Air Next Week, And One Of Them Celebrates Zelda's 40th Anniversary
!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2023/11/07/6a96790c/zelda.jpg.webp) Apparently not to be outdone by PlayStation airing back-to-back State of Play presentations this week(https://gameinformer.com/state-of-play/2026/09/03/everything-announced-at-the-september-2026-playstation-state-of-play), Nintendo has announced two Direct broadcasts scheduled for next week. This includes a traditional Nintendo Direct and a special Direct celebrating The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary. The news was first announced on the Nintendo Today app. On Tuesday, September 8, The Legend of Zelda: 40th Anniversary Direct airs at 7:00 a.m. PT/10:00 a.m. ET. It will last approximately 30 minutes. Nintendo has not detailed what announcements to expect, but it's fair to assume updates on The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake(https://gameinformer.com/nintendo-direct/2026/06/09/the-nintendo-switch-2-remake-of-the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time) and the live-action film The Legend of Zelda(https://gameinformer.com/2026/05/13/the-legend-of-zelda-movie-premiere-date-moved-up-one-week) are on the table. The next day, Wednesday, September 9, a standard Nintendo Direct airs at 7:00 a.m. PT/10:00 a.m. ET. This presentation will run for roughly 45 minutes. It’s anyone’s guess as to what to expect. Announced upcoming Nintendo first-party/Switch-exclusive projects, other than the aforementioned Ocarina of Time, include Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave(https://gameinformer.com/preview/2026/08/13/a-slow-build-that-hasnt-quite-hooked-me-yet-but-i-want-to-keep-playing), which launches on September 17, as well as Xenoblade Genesis(https://gameinformer.com/nintendo-direct/2026/06/09/xenoblade-genesis-revealed-and-it-launches-on-nintendo-switch-2-next) and Pokémon Winds and Waves(https://gameinformer.com/pokemon-presents/2026/02/27/pokemon-winds-and-waves-is-arriving-next-year), both of which arrive next year. Nintendo has a penchant for announcing major projects with little to no prior hints or leaks, so it's fair to expect just about anything could be showcased next week. What announcements do you hope/expect to see at these Nintendo Directs? Let us know in the comments! !(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/09/04/5e263dc6/zelda-direct-nintendo-today.jpg.webp)!(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/entitybrowserthumbnail/public/2026/09/04/c17336c7/nintendo-today-nintendo-direct-september2026.jpg.webp)
🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platformNintendo Officially Confirms A 'Zelda' 40th Anniversary Direct Is Coming
Nintendo surprises fans with two Directs in a single week, one for Zelda and the other for general games coming to Nintendo Switch 2
🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platformTwo Nintendo Directs Announced For Next Week, Including A Zelda Presentation
Not one, but two Nintendo Directs are coming next week. Nintendo has confirmed that a Legend of Zelda Direct will be held on September 8 at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET, and it'll be followed by a Nintendo Direct on September 9 at the same times. The Legend of Zelda: 40th Anniversary Direct will run for 30 minutes, while the Nintendo Direct is scheduled to run for 45 minutes. For a closer look at the games shown off, you can also tune in to a Nintendo Treehouse livestream after the Nintendo Direct, which will run for roughly 110 minutes. Rumors of a Nintendo Direct(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/a-september-10-nintendo-direct-is-looking-likely-thanks-to-just-dance/) began picking up earlier this week after Ubisoft announced that a new look at Just Dance: Decades of Hits was on the way. It's worth noting that the publisher announced it for September 10, but given how often Just Dance games appear in Nintendo broadcasts, it was assumed this would be the date of a Nintendo Direct. With Nintendo hosting a September Nintendo Direct almost every year for the past decade--with 2024 being an exception--it looked like it was only a matter of time before the broadcast was officially announced. https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/2095874535740309635?s=20 As for what you can expect, Nintendo is keeping its lips zipped for now. Last year's September Direct(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/nintendo-direct-september-2025-all-the-biggest-announcements/2900-702) was focused on several first-party games, smaller third-party titles, and the surprise reveal of a new Virtual Boy headset designed for Switch consoles, so we're guessing that it'll be more of the same for 2026. Following the release of the Switch 2 in 2025 and a steady stream of first-party games, 2026 has been slower by comparison, so here's hoping we get to see what new experiences Nintendo is working on. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is out later this month, so we'll probably get a new trailer for the turn-based tactics game. When it comes to The Legend of Zelda, it feels like Nintendo has barely acknowledged that this year marks the 40th anniversary of the beloved hero in green, but this could be a prime time to show what's on the horizon. The remake of Ocarina of Time(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-finally-reveals-the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time-remake-for-2026/) was announced several months ago, and there's also the upcoming live-action movie(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/the-legend-of-zelda-movie-release-date-trailer-story/2900-6252/)--so a teaser trailer wouldn't be unwelcome. If we're lucky, we might even get confirmation that The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD is finally coming to Switch consoles.

🎮 PlayStation, Nintendo Switch, Multi-platformLEGO PlayStation Design Revealed
!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/09/03/e63b1d48/lego01.jpg.webp) Today’s State of Play revealed a new partnership between the brick-building toy makers at LEGO and the PlayStation brand. Following on the heels of other video game console models like the NES(https://gameinformer.com/2020/07/13/lego-teases-nes-building-kit-images-of-the-set-immediately-leak), Game Boy(https://gameinformer.com/2025/07/24/a-lego-game-boy-replica-comes-out-this-october), and Sega Genesis(https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/sega-genesis-console-40926), the new LEGO PlayStation looks like a nostalgic throwback focused on celebrating the origins of the original 1994 design. The LEGO PlayStation includes several features and gimmicks that should bring a smile to the face of gamers who recall that mid-'90s console. The set includes both an opening button, a light, and a controller that can be plugged into the larger set. Borrowing the idea from other successful brick-built recreation sets, the LEGO PlayStation also includes two hidden dioramas that nod to early successes for the PlayStation brand – one focused on Ape Escape and the other on Gran Turismo. As of the State of Play airing, LEGO hadn’t revealed too much more. However, in a subsequent posting to the LEGO official site(https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/playstation-72306), we learned that the piece feature 1911 pieces, is set to release on October 4, and will retail for $179.99. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/09/03/9bacee7e/lego02.jpg.webp)
🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platformNinja Gaiden III, Ikari Warriors, And R.C. Pro-Am II Join Nintendo Switch Online Classics Library
!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/09/02/3b1a8ce0/ninja-gaiden-III-swich-online.jpg.webp) The NES library of the Nintendo Switch Online Classics has three new titles: Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom, Ikari Warriors, and R.C. Pro-Am II. Each title is available now to subscribers. Ninja Gaiden III: The Ancient Ship of Doom was released in 1991 as the final NES entry for the series. Its inclusion means the entire classic Ninja Gaiden trilogy is now available to Switch Online subscribers. The same is true of the R.C. Pro-Am racing series, with its 1992 sequel now joining the original (which has been available on Switch Online since February 2024). The run-and-gun action game Ikari Warriors is the oldest of today's additions, launching in arcades in 1986 before being ported to NES in the U.S. in 1987. Ikari Warriors is historically significant as one of the highest-grossing arcade games of its time and helped developer/publisher SNK break through in the West. 🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platformMario Kart 8 Deluxe Just Got A Surprise Free Update With 8-Player Split-Screen
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe(https://www.gamespot.com/games/mario-kart-8/) has been Nintendo's golden goose for several years, as it's the company's best-selling Switch game of all time(https://www.gamespot.com/gallery/best-selling-nintendo-switch-games-of-all-time/2900-5070/) and has received various updates over the years, becoming a feature-packed experience. Even with Mario Kart World aiming to usurp its position, Nintendo isn't done dropping new content into Mario Kart 8 yet, as the game just received a new eight-player split-screen mode out of nowhere on Switch 2. It's free to download, allows for up to eight players to share the screen locally, and it looks wild in action. Alongside the new mode that segments your TV like a slab of chocolate, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Version 4.0.0 also adds several more improvements that take advantage of the increased horsepower on Switch 2. In a nutshell, you're getting sharper graphics, CameraPlay support, and shorter load times in addition to smaller quality-of-life tweaks under the hood of the popular kart-racing game. Even player speed has been increased by a whopping coin--whatever that means. https://twitter.com/NintendoAmerica/status/2094968553728274749 But the expanded local split-screen is the real star of the show here, as not only can you strain your eyes while playing on TV, but you can also make your local optometrist happy by watching all those races unfold in handheld mode on the Switch 2. Considering just how much of an intensive load it is to render eight sessions in real time, the new multiplayer mode is a technical marvel to watch. This will likely keep Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at the top of the Nintendo food chain for a while yet. Mario Kart World has its charm, but as fans have pointed out, the anemic amount of content(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/surprise-mario-kart-world-update-ends-a-drought-of-new-content/) added since its launch last year has made it hard to root for. That drought might be coming to a temporary end, as with a rumored Nintendo Direct(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/a-september-10-nintendo-direct-is-looking-likely-thanks-to-just-dance/) supposedly arriving later this month, players are expecting Mario Kart World to get some sort of an update. If you're looking to grab it, a new Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/two-new-switch-2-bundles-announced-just-before-price-hike/) ($550) launches in late September--albeit for $50 when compared to the original launch bundle. 🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platformMario Kart 8 Deluxe Just Got A Switch 2 Update, Adding Local 8-Player And More
!Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2022/04/06/ad2a864a/mariokart8.jpg.webp) Mario Kart World was the Switch 2's big launch title, finally providing a sequel to the biggest Mario Kart game of all time. However, today Nintendo updated Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, originally released in 2017, enhancing its Switch 2 support with some added features. It's a surprising move, as one might assume Nintendo would have fully moved on to the newer game, but 8 Deluxe is the best-selling Switch game of all time, and many still prefer it to World, so it's a welcome improvement. The most impactful change for most is the addition of more players to local multiplayer. Previously, the mode was capped at four racers, but now it supports up to eight. It makes for a cramped screen, but it's nice to have the option. It's also worth noting that you can only connect seven Switch 1 controllers to a Switch 2, so at least one of the eight controllers has to be a Switch 2 Pro Controller or Joy-Con 2. The Switch 2 version of the game will now have shorter load times and higher resolution as well, on both the Switch 2 display and connected TVs. And for all you fans of CameraPlay (I've never met you, but I'm sure you exist), you can now use a USB camera in Online Play and local Multiplayer. That said, the latter is capped at 4 players – you can't have eight players with cameras. There are also some minor updates that also apply to the Switch 1 version of the game. All player speeds have been increased "by the equivalent of one coin," the Boo power-up will now make you immune to slowing down, even when offroading, and players with the Booster Course DLC can now do VS Races with up to 96 courses. The update is available now, and you can read the full patch notes here(https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/aid/26098/~/how-to-update-mario-kart-8-deluxe). It's nearly a decade old now, but check out our review for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe(https://gameinformer.com/games/mariokart8deluxe/b/switch/archive/2017/04/20/mario-kart-8-deluxe-game-informer-review.aspx) – the game is even better now than it was back then. Afterwards, you can, read our review for Mario Kart World(https://gameinformer.com/review/mario-kart-world/roam-if-you-want-to).
