PlayStation Plus Is Removing 10 Games Soon, So Finish Them While You Can

Last week saw several new games announced for the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra- and Premium-tier subscribers, and as you'd expect, a few games are also on their way out. In total, 10 more games are leaving soon, although Sony hasn't listed an exact departure date yet. For reference, nine games are leaving the Game Catalog today, so you'll likely have a few weeks left to play the ones listed below. As for what's only going to be around for a little while longer? Say goodbye to a fun Persona spin-off, some Toy Story adventures, and a few tactical-RPGs. PlayStation Plus Game Catalog games leaving soon !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/PS-Plus-leaving-soon.jpg?w=636) Grab 'em before they're gone. - EA Sports Madden NFL 26 - Persona 5 Tactica - Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13 - Toukiden 2 - Bubsy: The Woolies Strike Back - Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue - Toy Story 3 - Shadowrun Returns - Shadowrun Hong Kong: Extended Edition - Shadowrun Dragonfall: Director's Cut The removal of Toy Story games makes sense, as both Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue and Toy Story 3 are part of the upcoming Toy Story: Retro Roundup compilation(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/toy-story-5-isnt-getting-a-game-but-fans-are-still-eating-well/) coming to PC and consoles on October 15. That collection also includes the original film tie-in game that was released for Sega Genesis, the Game Boy Color edition of Toy Story 2, the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command video game--which is based on the underrated animated series spin-off--Toy Story Racer, and the official A Bug's Life game as a bonus. The Shadowrun games are also pretty great, as developer Harebrained Schemes put a neat spin on the tabletop source material and followed up on the 2013 release with two well-received expansions. If you're a fan of the Persona series, you'll also want to check out Persona 5 Tactica for how it reimagines the Persona 5 crew as cute little warriors summoned to a strange land and tasked with saving the day. It's not too dissimilar to Fire Emblem with its focus on tactics and grid-based movement, but it features a much smaller number of units taking to the battlefield. The other notable exit is Madden NFL 26(https://www.gamespot.com/games/madden-nfl-26/), but since a new game in the series launched earlier this month, you can imagine most people are focused on the newer release right now, as it introduces some sizable updates to gameplay. Next week, Sony is expected to reveal the next batch of free games for all PlayStation Plus subscribers in September, so don’t forget to check back to see what's on the way during the month when Green Day goes into hibernation(https://youtu.be/pGhwBFYtn1s). Control Resonant Still Comes Out Next Month, Unless You Want It On Disc🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platform

Control Resonant Still Comes Out Next Month, Unless You Want It On Disc

Remedy Entertainment has announced that Control Resonant "has gone gold." In other words, main development is complete, and the action-RPG is ready to arrive on September 24--but there's an unfortunate catch here. The physical edition of the title has actually been delayed almost a month to October 15. That means people who want the game on disc are going to have to wait a few weeks to play as Dylan Faden in the sequel. The staggered release between digital and physical for Control Resonant was revealed by Remedy on Bluesky(https://bsky.app/profile/remedygames.com/post/3mteiagzddp2c). In fact, there is a way to play the game even earlier on PS5(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/control-resonant-has-48-hours-early-access-but-only-on-ps5/). You can get two-day advanced access on Sony's system by preordering Control Resonant's digital deluxe edition(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/where-to-preorder-control-resonant/) for $70 (while the base edition costs $60). https://bsky.app/profile/remedygames.com/post/3mteiagzddp2c Buying physical versions of video games is a hot-button issue after Sony detailed last month that it's ending disc production in 2028(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/sony-confirms-playstation-disc-production-will-end-in-2028/). That all but guarantees that the eventual PS6 won't feature a disc drive. On top of that, Grand Theft Auto VI won't arrive on a disc at all(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-is-not-releasing-with-a-disc-and-that-just-makes-sense-in-2026/), even in the boxed edition. As for Control Resonant, it follows up 2019's Control and sees players taking on the role of Dylan, who's the sibling of the original game's Jesse Faden. There's no parry mechanic in the action-RPG(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/control-resonant-has-no-parry-mechanic-and-i-dont-know-how-to-feel-about-that/), as Remedy wants people to focus on offensive abilities. The Remedy title will also deal with trauma and redemption(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/control-resonant-deals-with-trauma-and-redemption/). Control Resonant is set to release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Former PlayStation Boss Weighs In On Sony Killing Off Physical Game Discs🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platform

Former PlayStation Boss Weighs In On Sony Killing Off Physical Game Discs

Former PlayStation executive Shuhei Yoshida has commented on Sony's recent announcement that it will end support for physical game discs(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstations-disc-based-game-sales-have-dropped-dramatically-in-recent-years/) in 2028. Speaking to Gamerbraves(https://www.gamerbraves.com/exclusive-from-playstation-to-indie-advisor-shuhei-yoshida-talks-games-ai-and-the-future-of-the-industry/), Yoshida said he "didn't know they were planning that." He said he feels for people who want game discs, but he believes it’s not “such a big issue” for many people because they already need to download patches, DLC, and updates. "Even with physical disc games, in most cases, developers are constantly updating and adding game data anyway. Anyone who chooses to purchase a physical version will still need to download new patches, DLC, or updates. So, not having a disc, I don’t understand if it’s such a big issue," he said. For fans of physical media, Yoshida said it "would be a shame if physical games were no longer available to collect." In regard to how the end of physical game discs could impact pricing, Yoshida said "the digital price point can be anything." One industry expert said part of the reason Sony is killing off physical game discs is to exert more price control and make more money generally(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-is-sony-killing-discs-its-all-about-profitability-and-control-expert-says/). The end of physical game discs would, in theory, have a significant impact on the secondhand market, too. “For those people who choose to buy or sell games, the lack of discs may become an issue,” Yoshida said. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FatSqS3VYY Sony's announcement about ending support for discs might make business sense(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstations-disc-based-game-sales-have-dropped-dramatically-in-recent-years/), but it's upsetting a lot of people and prompting concerns about game-preservation issues, among other things. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot, for his part, said there are "plus and minuses" to the end of physical media, but overall he thinks it's not a big issue.(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ubisoft-boss-has-a-hot-take-on-sony-killing-game-discs/)  “There are pluses and minuses, but we think it will not disturb too much the industry.” Sony is ending support for physical game discs as it also faces uncertainty around when it may release the PS6 and how much the console might cost(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps6-is-still-a-mystery-to-sony-including-when-its-coming-out/) due to the ongoing memory and component shortages. Gaming has gotten more expensive than ever in recent times. Here at GameSpot, we're spending a week covering the ins and outs of the current landscape, and offering insights into how you can play more while spending less(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/welcome-to-gamespot-cheap-week/).

PS6 Is Still A Mystery To Sony, Including When It’s Coming Out

The PlayStation 5 console will celebrate the sixth anniversary of its launch in November, but what does the future hold in store for Sony's gaming ambitions? Current expectations are for a PlayStation 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/playstation-6-everything-we-know-about-sonys-next-generation-console/1100-6533561/) to eventually hit the market, but when it'll arrive is another question entirely. Analysts can only guess as much, but don't expect Sony's top brass to have answers either. Speaking to the Wall Street Journal(https://www.wsj.com/business/media/sony-ceo-hiroki-totoki-efc8923f), Sony CEO Hiroki Totoki confirmed this, saying that the company has yet to set a date for the launch of the PS6. It's not hard to see why Sony is hesitant to do so, given the current tech climate and the vocal feedback to its plans to move to an all-digital future for game releases(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/sonys-all-digital-playstation-future-needs-a-little-more-steam/) on its platform. This echoes previous statements made by Totoki(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps6-release-date-and-price-are-still-up-in-the-air-sony-says/1100-6539857/), who said back in May that the PS6 release date and price were still up in the air. Several months later, it looks like there's still no concrete answer on how much a PS6 will cost or when it'll be released. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4FatSqS3VYY The biggest challenge right now is navigating the trade wars and the disruption to supply chains, as the all-consuming demand for critical components by AI companies has helped create a massive global shortage of high-tech parts that were once easily available and affordable to buy at scale. The situation is already looking dire for 2027, with three of the biggest PC memory manufacturers reportedly already sold out(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/all-of-2027s-ram-could-already-be-gone-as-major-manufacturers-sell-out/) for next year and no plans to manufacture additional components. Sony has already increased the price of a PS5 console(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-xbox-and-switch-2-heres-how-their-prices-have-changed-since-launch/) in 2026--with the PS5 Pro now an eyewatering $900(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/ps5-price-increase-confirmed-by-sony-amid-market-pressures/1100-6539060/)--and while it hasn't hinted at further increases yet, its rival Microsoft has already warned that things are going to get worse(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-may-have-another-price-hike-up-its-sleeve-in-2027/) before they get better. On the plus side, there are alternative ways to make gaming more affordable, and GameSpot is addressing this with its Cheap Week features(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/welcome-to-gamespot-cheap-week/).

GTA 6 Does Look A Bit Different In New PS5 Promo🎮 PlayStation, Multi-platform

GTA 6 Does Look A Bit Different In New PS5 Promo

Sony is flexing its video game muscle with a new "It Happens On PS5" ad campaign(https://blog.playstation.com/2026/08/17/new-it-happens-on-ps5-campaign-highlights-the-biggest-moments-of-play/), and the one-minute video features arguably the most anticipated title ever: Grand Theft Auto VI(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/grand-theft-auto-6-everything-we-know/1100-6503729/). Now, to be clear, there are only snippets of old footage for the open-world experience. But you should know by now that won't stop the internet from poring over every single little detail. For example, the X account DriftRespawn(https://x.com/playb0y4L/status/2089357629906674135) notes that letterboxing has been removed in the new PS5 promo from a clip where Jason Duval is hanging on to the back of a convertible, with Lucia driving the car. This scene first appeared in GTA 6's Trailer 2(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6s-trailer-2-looked-great-and-it-wasnt-all-cutscenes/1100-6531380/) from May 2025. The "It Happens On PS5" video is full screen instead of having black horizontal bars at the top and bottom. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6Su0IfHRms That's not all, either. The scene does seem lighter in the PS5 ad, and Lucia's face has a few minor differences. Her eyebrows are less pronounced and her hair color appears browner, though this might be because of the changed lighting in general. It's important to keep in mind that video games change as development proceeds, so these tiny differences could just be part of that process for GTA 6. We shouldn't be shocked to find out about other alterations when the GTA 6 "Extended Look" trailer hits Netflix on August 27(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-extended-look-coming-august-27-on-netflix/), either. We're now fewer than 100 days away from GTA 6(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-is-100-days-away-and-we-have-100-questions/), and the hype train shows no signs of slowing down.. GTA 6 won't arrive on a disc(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-on-a-disc-doesnt-make-sense-but-could-happen-take-two-ceo-says/), and Sony is killing disc production in 2028(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/why-sony-is-killing-disc-based-playstation-games-and-the-implications-for-ps6-and-beyond/)--which has caused a major backlash, at least on social media. However, it doesn't seem to be impacting GTA 6 preorders(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gta-6-preorders-alone-could-pay-for-production-budget-expert/). Last but not least, it's not just GTA 6 in the new PS5 commercial. Marvel's Wolverine and God of War Laufey also get some of the spotlight. Meanwhile, GTA 6 is set to launch November 19. Watch God Of War Laufey Star Smash The Last Of Us Golf Club Prop On Her First Day

Deborah Ann Woll plays Faye in the upcoming PS5 game God of War Laufey(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/god-of-war-laufey-gameplay-release-date-and-everything-we-know-so-far/), and she had quite a memorable first day on set. At San Diego Comic-Con recently, she shared a story about how, on her very first day, she broke a famous prop from The Last of Us due to her strength and tenacity--only she didn't know the significance at the time. And now, footage of the event has arrived. "Unbeknownst to me, this was a very famous prop that they had used on The Last of Us," she said, going on to joke that it was "some sort of sporting equipment." It was actually a golf club prop, and you probably know what that means... "They gave it to me and I was supposed to use it like an axe. And I broke it," Woll said. Game director Ariel Lawrence added, "She swung it so hard, it cracked. And it echoed throughout the volume. And we were like, 'Hot damn, let's go.'" https://twitter.com/SonySantaMonica/status/2088280064974635337 God of War: Laufey is in the works now for PS5, and it's arriving in February 2027(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/surprise-god-of-war-laufey-has-a-release-date-and-its-kratos-led-sequel-has-been-announced/). Starring alongside Woll is The Boys actor Jack Quaid, who plays a gelatinous cube named Phranque(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/god-of-war-laufeys-phranque-is-far-from-just-a-cube/). A new Kratos-led game(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/surprise-god-of-war-laufey-has-a-release-date-and-its-kratos-led-sequel-has-been-announced/) is coming after that, and it will pick up where Laufey left off(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/kratos-next-god-of-war-game-will-pick-up-where-laufey-leaves-off/).

Wolverine on the PS5 made me care about Marvel’s mutant for the first time

Going into my demo of Marvel's Wolverine, I mainly wanted to try out the game's very bloody combat. And it is delightfully bloody. But after two-ish hours of slashing and stabbing (and parrying!) enemies with Wolverine's claws, I left surprised - despite no previous attachment to the character, I was deeply endeared to Logan himself. &8230;

PlayStation Plus Extra/Premium Games For August 2026 Includes Helldivers 2

Sony is set to reveal the next batch of games coming to the Game Catalog for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium in August, but we already know of one of them: Helldivers 2(https://www.gamespot.com/games/helldivers-2/). Developer Arrowhead announced that its hit action game about bringing Managed Democracy to other worlds will be available through the Game Catalog starting August 12. An influx of fresh recruits is perfect timing, as the Helldivers 2 community is being challenged to collectively eliminate 500 million enemies by August 18 to unlock four Helldiver PlayStation avatars. Today also marks the release of a new expansion within the co-op shooter, Devoid of Liberty. This new content will see players venture into the haunted abyss of the Void to destroy Illuminate spires and gateways, exterminate new threats, and gain new ranks along the way. As usual, the new titles will be added to the Game Catalog every few days throughout the month.
