September Somehow Gets Even Busier With Fire Emblem, A Great-Looking Co-Op Game, And More

If you weren't already overwhelmed by the choice of game releases coming this September(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/september-2026-is-packed-with-games-trying-to-avoid-gta-6/), the latest Nintendo Direct(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-direct-june-2026-all-the-biggest-announcements-and-games/) has just confirmed that Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and Orbitals will be releasing in the busiest month in the gaming calendar. The new entry in the turn-based tactical RPG series, with an Ancient Roman-like theme, releases September 17. The retro-anime co-op adventure releases on September 3. Also confirmed to come to Switch 2 in the Nintendo Direct is Onimusha: Way of the Sword, releasing on September 25. This means, as with Capcom's other new releases in 2026--Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata--it will be launch simultaneously with other announced platforms. This adds to an exceptionally busy month for new releases, which already include The Blood of Dawnwalker, Halloween, Marvel's Wolverine, Dune Awakening, Silent Hill: Townfall, and more. It's also a month that sees more ports coming to Switch 2, including Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight and Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Has Four Playable Protagonists And A September Release Date🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platform

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave Has Four Playable Protagonists And A September Release Date

!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/09/29643071/fireemblem04.jpg.webp) Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, the next game in Nintendo's tactical RPG series, was revealed last September(https://www.gameinformer.com/nintendo-direct/2025/09/12/fire-emblem-fortunes-weave-comes-to-switch-2-in-2026), but we haven't seen any official updates until today. A brand new trailer during Nintendo's big summer Direct(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvUPDSDZg1k) showed off more units, detailed the game's structure, and a release date. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave will launch September 17 on Switch 2. This new trailer gives us a refresher on the game's world. It follows a series of warriors as they compete in the Heroic Games, a combat tournament held in a Roman-inspired coliseum, though it seems each competitor has unique motivations to win. Cai (who rides an Emu-like bird called an Ornius) is fighting to save his father from imprisonment, while Theodora wants to prove she has the strength to lead her people, performer Leda desperately wants revenge on someone, and Dietrich find a foe worthy of his blade, Answerer. You can pick which of the four is your protagonist, and see how each of them... wait for it... weaves their fortune into reality. Whoever wins the tournament will have a wish granted by the ruler, and given that the titular Fire Emblem is often a wish-granting artifact, it's likely to come into play. We also saw more of the game's free time structure, a staple in recent Fire Emblem entries. You can recruit units, travel outside the city walls to train against other foes, or level up your skills in the training arena. We also got a glimpse of a woman "rejoicing" about "the advent of the Underworld," which I think is fair to assume is a villain, and the return of Sothis, a character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. !Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/09/3728a81a/nintendodirect6.9.2026nintendotreehouselivejune202646-31screenshot.jpg.webp)(https://gameinformer.com/href) Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is coming to Switch 2 on September 17, and will have a special collector's edition available that same day. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Features Four Different Storylines

Nintendo and Intelligent Systems showed more of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave during the latest Nintendo Direct, ensuring turn-based-tactics fans will continue having an absolutely grand time when it launches on as a Switch 2 exclusive on September 17. Players will be able to choose between four different main characters, each with a unique storyline. Each hero will be seeking to win The Heroic Games for their own reasons, as whoever emerges victorious will be granted one wish. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rl5C4sc5zk The latest trailer highlighted each hero. Kai, a young boy, seeks to win the games in order to save his father. Meanwhile, Dietrich, a mysterious swordsman, joins the games in search of strong opponents. Theodora is a queen of an entire kingdom, and seeks to fulfill her homeland's dream. Leda, a muscian, joins the games seeking revenge. Each hero will have their own special techinques to deploy, and ones that are said to be capable of turning the tide of battle. Between official Heroic Games matches, players will have free time to spend. That time can be spent gearing up and improving their forces through training, recruiting new warriors, and venturing outside of the main city's walls to battle monsters and gain XP. The Fire Emblem series has been extremely active on Nintendo Switch, including two mainline games and multiple spin-offs. The latest game, Fire Emblem Engage, offered a more streamlined story than its predecessor Three Houses, with a return to classic Fire Emblem combat and a simpler story. We will continue to wait for Nintendo to do the right thing and bring the Radiant games to Switch. Pokémon Pokopia Gets New Bubbly Basin Biome This August Alongside Free Underwater Dive Update🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platform

Pokémon Pokopia Gets New Bubbly Basin Biome This August Alongside Free Underwater Dive Update

!Pokemon Pokopia Expansion Pass Bubbly Basin(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/09/3ebe4b55/pokopia01.jpg.webp) Pokémon Pokopia(https://www.gameinformer.com/product/pokemon-pokopia) launched earlier this year on March 5, exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2, and now, we know when the game's Expansion Pass content begins. During today's Nintendo Direct, we learned that the new Bubbly Basin town will be added to the game this August, and that same month, all players will get the underwater Dive ability in a free software update. Bubbly Basin kickstarts the Expansion Pass content, which will expand with "additional features" in late 2026 and a brand new town in 2027. As the name Bubbly Basin might imply, the new biome is completely underwater – you'll need to use the new Dive ability, which can only be acquired after raising the environmental level in the Bleak Beach town, to build the biome for all manner of underwater pocket monsters. Check it out in the Bubbly Basin trailer below: Bubbly Basin hits Pokémon Pokopia sometime this August. In the meantime, read Game Informer's Pokémon Pokopia review(https://www.gameinformer.com/review/pokemon-pokopia/a-pleasant-paradise).

In the game, you will manage a restaurant, which is character Sanji's whole deal. You will cook food and serve it to 400 characters from the anime and manga. One Piece: Grand Gourmet is coming to Switch and Switch 2 on October 23. !Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/09/9081e248/onepiece02.jpg.webp)

Nintendo Switch Online Classic Games To Get Challenges, Dataminer Claims🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platform

Nintendo Switch Online Classic Games To Get Challenges, Dataminer Claims

The NES, SNES, and Game Boy Nintendo Switch Online apps all received mysterious updates (to versions 9.0.0, 6.0.0, and 4.0.0, respectively), and a prolific dataminer has claimed that these patches are meant to add challenges. These challenges aren't accessible yet, but according to LuigiBlood on Bluesky (as spotted by Nintendo Everything(https://nintendoeverything.com/nintendo-switch-2-and-switch-nes-snes-and-game-boy-games-reportedly-getting-challenges/)), they will be similar to what players saw in the 2013 Wii U game NES Remix(https://www.gamespot.com/reviews/nes-remix-review/1900-6415612/). https://bsky.app/profile/luigiblood.bsky.social/post/3mnr4xhpypc2w For the many who skipped out on the Wii U, NES Remix contained quick excerpts of classic NES games, challenging players to complete parts of titles like Super Mario Bros. or The Legend of Zelda with specific objectives or constraints. NES Remix also contained more outlandish "remixes" of classic games (e.g., completing a level of Donkey Kong as Link), but LuigiBlood doesn't believe that the Nintendo Switch Online challenges will have anything of the sort. As of now, there are 84 NES games, 77 SNES games, and 43 Game Boy games on the NSO service in the North American and PAL regions. According to LuigiBlood(https://bsky.app/profile/luigiblood.bsky.social/post/3mnrf2uqzk22w), these challenges will only be for specific games and will be accessible through the NSO app on the Switch home menu. Any possible rewards that would come with these challenges are unknown at this point. An announcement of such a feature for Nintendo Classics would be perfectly suited for a Nintendo Direct, and it just so happens that the company confirmed that a presentation will stream on Tuesday, June 9(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/nintendo-direct-confirmed-for-june/). Nintendo Direct Confirmed For June 9, And It’s A Big One

A new Nintendo Direct livestream has been announced for June 9, making an already busy month of gaming showcases even busier. You can tune in at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET to watch it. As usual, Nintendo isn't sharing too many details on this livestream. Looking ahead, the second half of 2026 has a few big games on the way, including Star Fox and various third-party releases. Nintendo says the livestream will run for roughly 50 minutes, and it'll highlight upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch games. After the broadcast ends, there'll be a new Nintendo Treehouse livestream immediately after, showcasing gameplay of select titles featured in the Direct. On the rumor front, Nintendo will reportedly reveal a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time(https://www.gamespot.com/games/the-legend-of-zelda-ocarina-of-time/), and for retro gaming fans, the NES, SNES, and Game Boy games on Switch 2 are said to be getting new "challenges" for players to pursue. Nintendo has held a June Direct showcase every year since 2012, and it's not breaking that run in 2026. The content of each broadcast varies, as some years have been game-specific livestreams--like last year's Donkey Kong Bananza showcase--while older June Directs tied into E3 week and provided a broader overview of what to expect from Nintendo for the rest of the year. This month also marks the first anniversary of the Switch 2 console, which is Nintendo's fastest-selling console of all time(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/switch-2-has-become-the-fastest-selling-home-console-of-all-time-in-just-four-days/1100-6532341/) and has reached 19.86 million sales as of March 31, 2026. The original Switch isn't doing too badly either and is Nintendo's best-selling console(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-nintendo-switch-refuses-to-retire-and-the-ps2-should-probably-be-nervous/1100-6539862/) of all time with 155.92 million consoles sold.

Monster Hunter Developers Confirm Wilds Is Coming To Switch 2, Reveal New Ascendance Expansion Details🍄 Nintendo Switch, Multi-platform

Monster Hunter Developers Confirm Wilds Is Coming To Switch 2, Reveal New Ascendance Expansion Details

!Game Informer News(https://www.gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/06/06/377a9fda/Monster%20Hunter%20Wilds%20Ascendance%20%20Developer%20Message%200-16%20screenshot.jpg.webp) Monster Hunter Wilds is getting a "massive expansion" next year, as is tradition for the series, and we saw the reveal at yesterday's Summer Game Fest showcase. The reveal on its own raised a lot of questions, but shortly after it went live, Capcom published a video on its YouTube channel to share more details about the expansion and announce that the game is in development for Switch 2. The video is a conversation between Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance's producer Ryozo Tsujimoto and director Takuro Hiraoka. As they mention in the video, while Tsujimoto was a producer on the base game, Hiraoka was not Wilds' director, and is taking the role over from Yuya Tokuda. Hiraoka says he's worked on the series since Monster Hunter Portable 3rd, a 2010 Japan-exclusive PSP title, and worked his way up to be lead game designer on Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate and Monster Hunter World Iceborne. After the two break down Ascendance's not-so-subtle double meaning (it's both an advancement in gameplay and a literal ascension in elevation), they get into some more concrete details about the new area. It's officially called The Skybound Eyrie, and it's a series of floating ruins players can explore. As see in the trailer, Seikrets (the bird-like mounts from the base game) can ride updrafts to reach the islands, and then freely glide between them. Hiraoka also says, "We've prepared other environmental features unique to this locale, as well," though it's unclear what that might refer to. The duo also explains the Boost Bracer, a new mechanic we saw a glimpse of in the trailer. It enables new actions for each weapon type, enhancing "attacks, combos, and mobility, allowing for more versatility in hunts." The footage makes it look like some combos are faster, and maybe do more damage, but it's hard to tell specifics. "We're also preparing other new attacks and combos not related to the Boost Bracer," Hiraoka adds, though he doesn't clarify that statement either. Then, they go on to discuss some of the monsters players will be facing with these new moves. There's a flock of a new aerial monster that dive-bombs the player in a V-formation. The elder dragon Kushala Daora is also returning, and while they're not named, we see the silhouette of what appears to be Lao-Shan Lung. Hiraoka closes by saying, "Ascendance's story will be deeply connected with elder dragons," while Tsujimoto confirms the expansion for a 2027 release date. After some banter promoting Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection (a game I reviewed and largely enjoyed), they close with a significant announcement: Monster Hunter Wilds is currently in development for Switch 2. That said, there's no release window, nor any mention of whether the Switch 2 version will ever get the Ascendance DLC. "We will announce more official information, such as a release date, at a later time," Tsujimoto says, ending the presentation.
