As a temporary measure, they will be able to knock other players around if they try to rob you, but you can also just hang out in your garden overnight to prevent theft. Alternatively, you could open a private server on Grow A Garden 2 for free, which will let you and your friends hang out without any rogue player intervention (well, unless your friends are sneaky little creatures, like mine).
There are far better anti-burglar deterrents that don't cost a single Sheckle, even if the Gnomes are, indeed, very funny.
