New Naruto Anime Project Finally Resurfaces Ahead of Big Announcement

Back in August 2026, Naruto fans finally had a reason to be excited after Viz Media and Shueisha announced that the franchise would have a panel at New York Comic Con 2026, featuring an announcement about a "new project." The minds of Naruto faithfuls obviously went to the long-delayed new anime project, first announced back in 2023.

On Sept. 29, two official Naruto accounts confirmed on X that the NYCC announcement will indeed be about the new anime, which is a relief for everyone who feared this would be about another exhibition instead. The panel, titled "Naruto: What's Next," will take place on Oct. 10, 6-7 p.m. EDT. Fans in attendance or watching online through this link will be "the first to witness the latest news of the New Naruto TV Anime Limited Series."

The new Naruto anime will finally share some news at New York Comic Con 2026

The Naruto anime remake was first announced as part of the series' 20th anniversary, in the form of four special episodes crafted with modern animation techniques. The announcement was accompanied by a 10-minute trailer showing some of the most iconic scenes of the anime, updated with a modern look.

Originally, the four episodes were supposed to air in September 2023, but in August of that year, a delay was announced in order to improve the quality of the episodes. Some fans even speculated that, after the positive reception of the trailer, the franchise decided to approve a full remake. However, animation studio Pierrot has been busy with Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, meaning that the Naruto remake could have been put on hold until Bleach concludes, which will happen on Oct. 26.

After more than three years, Naruto fans will finally know what to expect from this much-anticipated remake. The franchise is still massively popular, so whether this will consist of just four episodes or a full remake in the style of Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War, the project will surely be a success.
