A lot of the chatter about The Witcher 3's remaster, which drops for everyone tomorrow, has naturally centred on the graphical changes. Do we like the new lighting? Hate it? Do we think the more saturated colours of the original game look better or worse than the new ones? That kind of thing.
But CDPR hasn't spent all this time just tweaking how motes of lights impact Geralt's beard, it's also talked up the tweaks it's made to the game's combat. When I chatted with executive producer Jakub Kutrzuba, he told me that the goal was to make the game feel like it came out in 2026, and that—speaking for himself and CDPR's devs—they personally couldn't bring themselves to go back to the old version, so used were they to the remaster's improvements.
Well, here are those improvements in action. Between you and me? The remaster's combat doesn't feel radically different. Geralt's still sorta twitchy and you still spend a great deal of time hammering the dodge button. That's no problem for me; I rather liked how The Witcher 3 played back in 2015 anyway, but if you bounced off that gameplay way back when and are hoping this will make it feel totally different? You might not get your wish.
