Overview & Key Takeaways

Game Informer News

Santa Monica Studio has revealed new combat details for God of War Laufey, chiefly a new weapon for the titular protagonist. With the game slated to launch in February, pre-order details and a Digital Deluxe Edition have also been announced.

God of War Laufey stars Kratos' wife, Faye, as she battles to liberate and survive the Everywhen, the afterlife of the Gods, after she dies at the beginning of God of War (2018). A PlayStation Blog post reveals a new weapon for Faye alongside her sword: the Serpentโ€™s Bow. This mythical bow gives Faye a ranged option to keep foes at bay, and its quickness allows players to weave arrow shots into their melee attack strings. Short clips posted on the blog show Faye knocking opponents in mid-air and peppering them with a few quick arrows before resuming her melee combo.

Holding down the fire button charges precision shots to target weak points that can hinder enemy movement and offense. Charging shots also allows Faye to notch and unleash up to five arrows at once. Faye also has an arsenal of arrow types, including rapid-fire, explosive, and multi-targeting options. The Serpent Bow can also be customized by equipping scales that alter its appearance and performance.

God of War Laufey pre-orders open tomorrow, September 29, and include the following items. According to the blog post, items with an asterisk are denoted as "Unlock in-game items via story progression."

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Will Have Four Performance Modes On PS5 Pro

!Final Fantasy VII Revelation April 8 2027 Release Date PlayStation 5 Xbox Series X/S Nintendo Switch 2 PC(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/09/23/50aa381f/05ffviirevelationscreenshot.jpg.webp) I got hands-on with Final Fantasy VII Revelation(https://gameinformer.com/product/final-fantasy-vii-revelation) at Tokyo Game Show last week, playing about 25 minutes of the game's first chapter. You can read more about my experience during that preview here(https://gameinformer.com/preview/2026/09/23/playing-chapter-1-gave-me-exactly-what-i-was-looking-for-after-a-disappointing), including what's happening narratively and my thoughts on the game's FITS system, but I also spoke with Revelation director Naoki Hamaguchi about the PlayStation 5 Pro's graphics settings available in this build. Before hopping into the game, I paged through the visual settings and noticed "Quality," "Performance โ€“ Sharp," and "Performance โ€“ Soft." !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/09/23/d0f024a5/06ffviirevelationscreenshot.jpg.webp) It's clear Quality mode aims for the highest resolution and might run at a locked 30 FPS (though I couldn't confirm that during my preview). The Performance โ€“ Sharp and Performance โ€“ Soft return from post-launch Final Fantasy VII Rebirth support, giving players options for how they want to experience 60 FPS gameplay on PS5 Pro. Similar to Rebirth, Revelation's Performance โ€“ Smooth features a 60 FPS framerate with smoother, or softer, image quality, while Performance โ€“ Sharp features a 60 FPS framerate with sharper image quality. As for what that will look like in the final game, more testing beyond a 25-minute demo is needed, but the game was beautiful when I played it and ran at a consistent 60 FPS. Hamaguchi tells me players will see differences between these modes in things like hair, environmental detailing, shading, and more, however. On X during TGS, Hamaguchi posted(https://x.com/nhamaguc/status/2102083914638696592?s=20) that the PS5 Pro will leverage PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) to deliver a mode that features both 4K image quality and 60 FPS gameplay, though he didn't say what it's called. Unfortunately, I can't recall seeing this option in the game's settings โ€“ blame it on TGS memory or perhaps it wasn't available in this preview build. !Game Informer News(https://gameinformer.com/sites/default/files/styles/bodydefault/public/2026/09/23/e478f593/04ffviirevelationscreenshot.jpg.webp) I should note that, because this build was playable on PS5 Pro, there's no word on which of these modes, if any, will be available on base PS5, but if it's like Rebirth, all three, sans the PSSR mode, will be playable. Final Fantasy VII Revelation launches on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC on April 8, 2027.
