Prince of Persia Dev Officially Confirms End of Development As New Game Looms

Earlier this month, Evil Empire released an anniversary update for 2025's The Rogue Prince of Persia. In a surprise move, the studio has now announced that the update will be the game's last, with support ending just over one year after the game's release. Why now? Well, Evil Empire is probably switching gears to prepare for the imminent release of its next game.

In a post on the game's Steam page and Evil Empire's X account, the studio wrote: "We originally planned two updates, but decided to bring the best and most important parts of both into this one." It continued by saying that "We’ve always been a bit too optimistic about what we could do, mostly because we genuinely love working on the game, but we feel this is the right way to wrap up its first year."

The anniversary update was released on Sept. 17 and added a number of tweaks to the game, including better pacing and an improved endgame. The full patch notes are 15 pages long, which shows just how much the team at Evil Empire tried to polish the game before moving on. While there will be no further updates, the game has been left in a great state for players to continue to enjoy it for a long time.

Evil Empire's next game is Castlevania: Belmont's Curse

Moving on from The Rogue Prince of Persia at this time makes a lot of sense for Evil Empire, as the studio is about to be even busier. It is scheduled to release Castlevania: Belmont's Curse on Oct. 15. Once the game is out, the studio will likely need to push several updates and hotfixes as needed as players find bugs or game mechanics that need balancing.

Belmont's Curse is especially exciting as it is the first new Castlevania game since 2014's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2. It will bring back the series' traditional 2D perspective and follow Rose Belmont (the daughter of former protagonist Trevor) in a story that takes place after Castlevania 3.
