Control Resonant’s Day-One Patch Makes the Game Easier ‘While Still Providing a Challenge’

Overview & Key Takeaways

Remedy has released a day one patch for Control Resonant that brings much needed balance to combat

Control Resonant releases globally today, but some players have had early access for several days. In addition to critics, who largely praised Remedy's latest, fans who pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition were able to play the game two days early. Those players have given the studio some initial feedback, which has resulted in a day one patch for Control Resonant that seeks to address one of its biggest issues: combat.

In the official patch notes, Remedy writes that "Depending on player progression, enemies can feel too tanky during the early hours of the game." The studio strongly believes that the changes the hotfix brings will improve the gameplay feel while still providing a necessary challenge for players, avoiding overcorrection.

Here are the three main changes the day-one patch makes:

  • Reduce the base health and required Falter (stun) level of most enemies, as well as the Dancer and Deserter bosses
  • Increase maximum Aberrant Strength and maximum Ability Strength
  • These strength increases follow a curve, with progressively larger increases towards the end. The more upgrades you have, the more damage you deal.

These changes should noticeably improve the early-game balance, especially when it comes to how frail Dylan can feel when compared to spongy enemies. Remedy will also surely make more tweaks in the coming days, but you can also check out our beginner's guide for helpful tips and tricks.

While combat tweaks are the biggest items in the hotfix, that's not all that Remedy changed. To encourage players to experiment with different builds, the cost of respeccing Dylan's stats has been permanently reduced, while stock of "Reset Items" has been increased at all in-game vendors. Additionally, the first Resonant boss now drops two "Reset Items" instead of one. Remedy also reminds players that the game's extensive Assist Mode can be used to fine-tune the gameplay experience, whether that's to make it easier or harder.

Lastly, Remedy has updated a couple of UI elements in the English version of the game to better explain Build Power and Aberrant Strength. For the former, "Multiplier X%" will now appear as "Damage and Falter X%." For the latter, Calculated based on equipped Weapon Forms, Talents and Core Upgrades.” will now be “From unlocked Combat Abilities, Aberrant forms/upgrades, Talents, and Core Upgrades.”

Control Resonant is available now on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.

Gears of War: E-Day Preload Times, Install Size, And Global Launch Dates

Several years have passed since the last new Gears of War game was released, but at long last, that drought is almost over. Gears of War: E-Day(https://www.gamespot.com/games/gears-of-war-e-day/) will be one of the early highlights of October, and if you're looking to rev your Lancer up and turn back the Locust tide, you can start playing really soon. Like other big upcoming games, you'll also have the option to preload Gears of War: E-Day, so you can jump right into the fray on launch day. Here's a closer look at the timing for this new chapter in the series. Gears of War: E-Day install size According to the official PC requirements(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/gears-of-war-e-day-on-pc-wont-let-you-play-without-a-ray-tracing-capable-gpu/) for Gears of War: E-Day, the game will require 115GB of storage capacity on that platform. Xbox Series X|S install sizes are typically on par with PC, so overall, you'll want to make sure you have at least 100GB of free space available on your machine. That's a pretty noticeable increase in size, as the previous game, Gears 5, required a chunky 80GB of space when it was first released back in 2019. One other thing to note is that if you're planning to play on PC, the game requires a solid-state drive to be installed on. This is a mandatory requirement for the game to run optimally. Gears of War: E-Day preloading times Preloading will kick off on September 29 at the following times: - 11 AM ET - 10 AM CT - 9 AM MT - 4 PM BST - 5 PM CEST - 3 PM UTC - 5 PM SAST - 1 AM AEST (September 30) Gears of War: E-Day early access global launch times If you purchase the Premium or Collector's Edition of Gears of War: E-Day, you'll get a five-day headstart to play the game, starting October 1.  Early access will kick off at these times across the globe: - 11 AM ET - 10 AM CT - 9 AM MT - 4 PM BST - 5 PM CEST - 3 PM UTC - 5 PM SAST - 1 AM AEST (October 2)
