Xbox’s Long-Awaited Platinum Trophy Equivalent Leaks Online
Overview & Key Takeaways
Xbox's new Mythic Achievement system has leaked online.
It seems that Xbox's Platinum Trophy equivalent is finally right around the corner. In a new report, TrueAchievements confirmed details on the upcoming Mythic Achievements. Like PlayStation’s Platinum Trophies, players will unlock Mythics after earning all of a game’s base achievements — additional challenges introduced with DLC or patch updates will not affect this progress.
Users discovered the logo and sound cue for Mythic Achievements in a new update for the Xbox PC App. For other details, a separate filter lets players track their Mythic progress by highlighting what they still need. Mythic Achievements aren't worth any Gamerscore (the existing the metric that tracks how many achievement points a player has earned). After unlocking a Mythic achievement, game art in the Gaming tab will show the Mythic logo and a green border. Once the update is live, Mythic Achievements will be awarded retroactively.
The upcoming update will also reportedly overhaul the Gaming tab on an Xbox profile to include more stats, such as total Gamerscore, the number of achievements unlocked, and how many Mythic Achievements you've earned. According to TrueAchievements, the update is expected to launch soon, potentially before the end of the month. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma previously teased that a Platinum Trophy equivalent was on the way this year, something seemingly confirmed when the Mythic Achievement filter appeared early on Xbox Insider accounts.
What else has been happening at Xbox lately?
The introduction of Mythic Achievements will likely be a welcome change of pace for Microsoft compared to its recent bad PR. Five months ago, the company announced it was laying off 1,600 employees immediately, with another 1,600 cuts coming in the next fiscal year. On Sept. 22, Xbox laid off another 268 employees. The company announced it would consolidate several teams, bringing Halo under Activision, moving Obsidian under Bethesda, and combining the studios behind Forza and Fable. It also said Ninja Theory would likely close, as the studio hasn't found a new backer after Microsoft divested from the team alongside Double Fine, Compulsion Games, Undead Labs, and potentially Arkane Studios. Xbox has certainly seen better times.
