Overview & Key Takeaways

Fortnite's gaming season has reached a new peak with the introduction of Kingdom Hearts cosmetics and items to the Battle Royale.

The second update of Fortnite Override is finally here. While there was an unexpected delay, Kingdom Hearts is now part of the Battle Royale, but that's not all that's coming. This patch is riddled with new cosmetics, collabs, loot hacks, and exciting items. Downtime is now over, which means players can hop back onto the Battle Royale island and start exploring all the content that's been added to Fortnite.

The highlight of update v42.20 is the highly anticipated Kingdom Hearts collab, which has been extensively teased for the past couple of weeks. Sora is now in the Item Shop for 1,800 V-Bucks, alongside Roxas, Kairi, and Riku, which cost 1,600 V-Bucks each. Thankfully, players who want to get their hands on all of these cosmetics can simply get the bundle for a discounted price of 4,500 V-Bucks. It'll add a total of 20 Kingdom Hearts items to their in-game lockers.

Kingdom Hearts' Kingdom Key is the latest melee weapon in Fortnite, and it allows players to annihilate their opponents with its destructive bolts and powerful combos. Those looking to heal from taking a hit should make sure they have some Sea Salt Ice Cream handy, as it'll grant them and their teammates some health and shields. Both items are now part of the standard Battle Royale loot pool, but they'll be more accessible during the Kingdom Hearts Power Hours. On Saturday, Sept. 19, players begin matches with the Kingdom Key and Sea Salt Ice Cream in their inventory. The Power Hour event will be live from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. ET, and again from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. ET.

The Edgerunners collab isn't fully available yet; gamers aren't able to nab cosmetics from the Item Shop yet, but they do have access to Rebecca's Guns. Players can get Rebecca's Guns in Fortnite by taking down the Adam Smash boss. With them, they can deal heavy damage to their enemies, especially if they come across the Exotic variant, which has a special ricocheting bullets effect.

These are just two of the collabs that are being brought to Fortnite in this update. Players are expected to see items based on Persona 5, Pac-Man, and Ironmouse.

While they stand out, collab items aren't the only ones that have been added to Fortnite. With the latest delivery of loot hacks, players can use their Sprite Dust to unlock even more items and weapons this week. The new loot hacks include the following items: the Hyperburst Pistol, the Mammoth Pistol, the Reaper Sniper Rifle, the Deadeye DMR, Flowberry Fizz, and the Rocket Ram. Players can get more Sprite Dust by extracting sprites.

Speaking of sprites, there are three new sprites to find on the island, which is a good thing, as mastering 30 of them will now grant players the free Pixel Polli skin. While exploring the new content, be sure to be on the lookout for the Pond Sprite, the Crash Bandicoot Sprite, and the Blinky Sprite.

The Best News For Saw: Genesis Is We Have To Wait Longer To Play It

Saw: Genesis was set to be the next asymmetrical multiplayer horror game to debut, but its 2026 early-access launch has been pushed to 2027, developer Bloober Team announced. The horror-focused studio said it needs more time to get Saw: Genesis to a place the team is satisfied with. It's an interesting admission, since some teams use Steam Early Access for exactly that purpose: to get the game in good shape. But in the increasingly competitive and crowded space of licensed multiplayer horror games(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/how-hollywoods-iconic-monsters-kicked-off-a-horror-game-revolution/1100-6527506/), a bad first impression may be more damaging than a reverse bear trap strapped to your face. We've seen a lot of games like this since Dead by Daylight kicked off a wave of them in 2016, but my appetite remains insatiable because no two are really quite alike. It's exciting to see how studios transpose different horror movies' signature elements into interactive experiences, but when I checked out Saw: Genesis at Summer Game Fest, I came away underwhelmed. !(https://www.gamespot.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/jpjeoik87irh1.jpeg?w=636) The 3v1 gameplay loop wasn't easy to follow in my hands-off demo. It's set about a century before the movies, with one person playing as a Jigsaw-like "Judge" who runs three others through his maze of torture devices and traps, trying to kill them all before any of them can escape the end of his trials. The team of three may have brief windows of opportunity to attack the Judge, though a really skilled Judge may never even give them a chance, lurking in corridors the victims can't access, slinking out to activate his next hellish device. Things like complex puzzles for the victims and best practices for the Judge were really hard to follow. Some understanding would come with more experience, no doubt, but the first impression was rough enough to make me think it'll scare off players for being so unintuitive right away. Animations and visuals were lacking, too. I figured those issues could and likely would be polished over time, but if the core experience is unclear or convoluted, Saw: Genesis may struggle to compete for players' time, especially since its closest comparison is Red Barrels' already successful Outlast Trials. The delay feels warranted. I've been rewatching the Saw series lately, and it's reminded me that these movies aren't very good. Many of the 10 of them are plainly bad. Even the first one, which I'd long remembered as a milestone in low-budget horror, now feels like it has too many plot contrivances and nu-metal music-video editing choices for my liking. And yet, I'm totally on board with Saw: Genesis if it works as a game. I don't have any reverence for the '80s B-movie Killer Klowns From Outer Space(https://www.metacritic.com/movie/killer-klowns-from-outer-space/), but I had a blast with Illfonic's adaptation(https://www.gamespot.com/games/killer-klowns-from-outer-space-the-game/). I'm looking forward to seeing how Saw: Genesis changes shape between now and the next time we hear about it. Even though it's horror season and a Saw: Genesis launch would've made sense on the calendar--"If it's Halloween, it must be Saw," I was always told--I like the idea of Bloober Team pushing it out a few months to try to clean it up. This is a studio that told me it's done making "shitty games(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/bloober-team-says-its-done-with-shitty-games-and-silent-hill-2-remake-wasnt-a-fluke/1100-6527269/)," and while that's not a guarantee, Bloober Team surely hopes to follow through.
