With the first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms and the third season of House of the Dragon airing this year, Game of Thrones fans could potentially be left out in the cold in 2027. Sure, The Mad King stage play will have a production in London next year, but what about television audiences? Luckily, HBO has just given fans an exciting update on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms' future.
Talking to Deadline following a successful night at the Emmys, HBO boss Casey Bloys shared updates on several of the company's shows. That included A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. Bloys shared that the much-anticipated second season "is coming out in the first half of 2027." Since the show premiered in January 2026, that means the time between seasons will be a year and a half at most, which isn't actually that bad in the current prestige television landscape.
It is also faster than House of the Dragon, which has had two years between seasons so farz. Game of Thrones used to release a season a year (except for the two-year wait for the final season), so it's nice that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is getting back to that cadence. House of the Dragon is set to start shooting season 4 next spring, meaning it likely won't release until 2028.

The first season of the prequel series adapted the entirety of George R.R. Martin's 1998 novella The Hedge Knight. The second season will adapt The Sworn Sword, the second novella about the adventures of Ser Dunk the Tall and his squire Egg, who is revealed to be Westeros' king-to-be Aegon Targaryen V.
If the show makes it to season 3, it will adapt the third and final book in the series, The Mystery Knight. Showrunner Ira Parker confirmed to Polygon that Martin is writing a fourth book, but who knows if that will ever see the light of day. If the show continues past season 3, it will likely need to come up with its own material just as HBO's Game of Thrones did before it. For now, fans can rest assured that season 2 is happening.
