Overview & Key Takeaways

Percy Jackson and the Olympian star Walker Scobell teases Nico's bigger role in season 3

Disney is set to release the third season of its Percy Jackson and the Olympians adaptation on Nov. 20. While that seems just around the corner, the studio hasn't shared too much with the public about what to expect from The Titan's Curse. Now we are learning that there are some major changes in store, especially where it concerns one of the series' most important characters.

In Percy Jackson season 3, viewers will be introduced to siblings Nico and Bianca di Angelo. The two kids are of great importance to the central prophecy that also concerns Percy due to their parentage, though I won't spoil who exactly the di Angelos are related to. While Bianca will accompany Percy on a quest to track down Annabeth and the missing goddess Artemis, Nico is left at Camp Half-Blood. As the books are told from Percy's perspective, that means The Titan's Curse doesn't feature Nico all that much. This is something that'll change with the show.

Walker Scobell (Percy himself) revealed that Nico will be "a bigger part of the entire season," in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly. He went on to reveal that the story won't just be from Percy's point of view this time around. "There are a couple times where we get to see what's going on at camp, and how Nico's doing." Levi Chrisopulos, who will be playing Nico, teased that while the show will keep some "solid points of Nico's personality from the book," it has also made some adjustments. Scobell and Chrisopulos also teased that the two characters have a mutual respect for each other that stems from their drives to protect the ones they care about. This bond will set up some very important plot points in later books.

Who is in Percy Jackson season 3?

Scobell will once again lead the show as Percy, alongside returning cast members Aryan Simhadri as Grover and Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth. Bianca will be played by Olive Abercrombie. The third season will also introduce a number of gods, including Dafne Keen's Artemis, Kate McKinnon's Aphrodite, Ming-Na Wen's Hera, Jennifer Beals' Demeter, and Hubert Smielecki's Apollo. Holt McCallany will take on the role of Atlas, the season's big bad.

With season 3, Disney's adaptation takes the series into uncharted waters. While the first two books in Rick Riordan's series have previously been adapted by 20th Century Fox, this will be the first adaptation of the third book. It also means that the end is in sight, as there are only five books in the series. Disney has yet to officially renew the series for a fourth season.
