Here's everything you need to know to make the most of Pokémon Go's Gible Community Day, including the bonuses and best movesets for Garchomp.
Pokémon Go is having a Gible Community Day Classic event on Saturday, Sept. 12 from 2-5 p.m. in your local time.
If you don't already have an army of Garchomp at your disposal, this Community Day isn't one you'll want to miss. Mega Garchomp is extremely powerful, so make sure to try to nab at least one high-CP Gible before the event is over, along with enough candy to power it up and evolve it.
As expected with a Community Day event, Gible will spawn in huge numbers with a high chance for it to appear shiny. There are also several other bonuses and perks, which we’ve listed out below.
How to find a shiny Gible in Pokémon Go
As per old research by the now-defunct website The Silph Road (via Wayback Machine), Shiny rates on Community Days are about 1 in 24, which means that if you keep playing throughout the three-hour window, you should find quite a few shiny Pokémon.

If you’re short on time or Poké Balls, you can pop an Incense, then quickly tap each Gible to check for shiny ones, running from any that aren’t shiny. Notably, any Gible you’ve already tapped will face where your player is standing, so that should help identify which ones you may have already checked.
If you evolve Gabite into Garchomp from 2-9 p.m. in your local time, it will learn the charged move Earth Power.
If you miss out on evolving it during this period, you will likely be able to evolve it during a Community Day weekend event in December to get Earth Power. If you don’t want to wait, you can use an Elite TM to get the move.
Garchomp's best movesets in Pokémon Go
In PvE content (raids and gyms), Garchomp remains a high-tier must-have. Especially since it has a Mega Evolution that is particularly powerful. Mega Garchomp is the third best dragon-type attacker (only behind Eternatus and Mega Rayquaza, so that's saying a lot) when set up with Dragon Tail and Breaking Swipe. It's also the second best ground-type attacker (only behind Primal Groudon) with Mud Shot and Earth Power. It's worth nabbing at least two Garchomp to cover both types, if you can.
As for PvP, Garchomp is actually pretty good in the Master League, according to PvPoke. Set it up with Dragon Tail, Twister, and Earth Power, and it can win against a lot of the troublesome dragon-types you may see in the league.
Notably, Garchomp has a second Mega Evolution (Mega Garchomp Z) which is not in the game yet. Mega Garchomp Z is a pure dragon-type, so it may be worthwhile holding on to an extra Garchomp or two.
The following bonuses will be active during Gible Community Day:
- 3x XP for catching Pokémon
- Incense lasts three hours
- Lure Modules last one hour
- Gible special photobombs when taking snapshots
- Collection Challenge that rewards Garchomp Mega Energy
- Themed Field Research that may reward Gible with a Special Background
That said, you should definitely pop a Lucky Egg and an Incense and try to nab some powerful Gible.
If you can Mega Evolve Dragonite, Ampharos, Steelix, Sceptile, Swampert, Altaria, Salamence, Latias, Latios, Rayquaza, or Garchomp, you’ll score additional Gible Candy per catch. Using Primal Reversion on Groudon will also net you extra candy.
Scopely Explore is also continuing the "Lure Module Bonus" it's been running for the last year. From 2-9 p.m., Gible will spawn in high numbers from placed Lure Modules. Even after the Community Day ends at 5 p.m., you can still find a shiny Gible (or one with a Special Background) from lures with the increased Community Day shiny rate.
