Roblox Rolls Out Massive Updates at RDC 2026
Overview & Key Takeaways
At the 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference (RDC), the company unveiled updates that aim to expand access, development, and monetization
This week marks the 12th annual Roblox Developers Conference (RDC), a private event held in the Bay Area for the platform's creator community. As part of the event, the San Mateo, California-based company unveiled updates that aim to expand access to user-made games, as well as give creators new development tools and modes of monetization.
This latest update does not address concerns surrounding child safety in Roblox, which have continued to dog the platform in the U.S. and overseas in recent weeks, even after the introduction of new age-restricted accounts back in June. Despite those concerns, the platform continues to enjoy massive popularity. In a press release provided to Polygon, the company claims that during the last quarter, players spent 29 billion hours on Roblox across more than 180 countries.
Here's a rundown of the major changes coming to Roblox out of this year's RDC:
New Ways to Play Roblox

- Creators will have the option to make their games available as stand-alone apps across mobile, PC, and consoles, with Roblox powering the technology and services underneath.
- By the end of this year, players will be able to join a game in-browser, meaning a shared link becomes a direct path from discovery to play.
- Creators will be able to combine online and offline modes in one game, opening up single-player campaigns and sessions away from a network.
- Roblox is expanding its engine capabilities to support 2D games with a new orthographic camera, animated image containers, and direct sprite-sheet import.

- Build, a tab in the Roblox app that lets anyone create and publish a game just by prompting, is expanding its public alpha into Serbia and Singapore. Additionally, Roblox is adding new tools to give creators more control, including a new asset library, desktop access, and iterative control.
- Arriving later this year, Scene Generator will bring prompt-to-scene functionality to both Build and Studio, with greater creator control available in Studio.
- Roblox is expanding what NPCs can do on Roblox with two new behaviors by year-end, including NPCs that playtest.

- A financial account built to scale with creator businesses, Roblox Wallet lets creators earn directly in real currency, get paid automatically each business day, and move funds to other Roblox accounts or an external account, with richer earnings analytics in Creator Hub. Airwallex, the payment services provider behind Roblox Wallet, is not currently available in five US states: New York, Nevada, Hawaii, Indiana, and Wisconsin. When asked for clarification about how Roblox Wallet would work in those states, a representative told Polygon, "For some US customers, they [Airwallex] partner with trusted US banks to provide payment services."
- Connected to Roblox Wallet, Roblox Card will let creators spend their available balance anywhere the card is accepted, and will begin rolling out in 2027. "Roblox Card will be a card connected to a Roblox Wallet that functions like a debit card. The Roblox Card will allow creators to access and spend the available balance in their Wallet on real world expenses, anywhere major card networks are accepted. It is not a credit card. There is no line of credit or loan," a Roblox spokesperson told Polygon.
