Xbox Gets Exclusive Call of Duty Gun Skin PlayStation Players Can't See

Overview & Key Takeaways

The latest battle in the console wars is happening in Call of Duty, where Xbox players are getting a gun skin that looks different on every other plat

The console war has found a new battlefield, and this time it’s the latest Call of Duty entry. Xbox players are getting a special Modern Warfare 4 gun skin that PlayStation and PC players literally cannot see.

Activision just announced the “Inner Circuit” M4 blueprint as a bonus for anyone who digitally pre-orders Modern Warfare 4.

While everyone gets the same weapon blueprint with identical stats, Xbox players get a very different-looking version.

The Xbox-exclusive treatment celebrates the console’s 25th anniversary with a translucent green design inspired by the original Xbox, complete with Xbox branding on the magazine. On Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Windows PC, the same weapon instead has a more traditional mil-spec appearance.

The Xbox skin that PlayStation players can’t even see

A console-exclusive skin on its own isn't odd, but here's where things get weird: The Xbox version isn't visible to anyone playing on another platform.

If an Xbox player encounters someone on PC or PlayStation and pulls out their fancy translucent-green M4, those players will see the standard version of the weapon. The appearance is determined by the platform you're playing on, rather than being something players can toggle themselves.

At least there's no competitive advantage. Activision says both versions have the exact same attachments and gameplay characteristics. The only difference is what the gun looks like. From the blog post, the Inner Circuit M4 has these attachments/stats:

  • 11.5" Shortline Barrel — improves handling and mobility, at the cost of recoil control and effective range.
  • FTAC Dominion Muzzle — reduces vertical and horizontal recoil.
  • FSS Fireline Grip — steadies firing, but slows snap-to-aim.
  • SZ Prima-4 Dot Optic — slim dot sight with a clear sight picture.
  • ZLR ASP50 Stock — retractable stock designed to reduce weight and improve movement speed.

The over build focused on accuracy, handling, and mobility, particularly for close- and mid-range fights. The blog also says it can work as a mobile secondary option alongside a sniper loadout.

Platform-specific Call of Duty bonuses aren't new, but making a cosmetic that only Xbox players can actually see is a strange new twist.

Modern Warfare 4 launches Oct. 23 on Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
