New Pokémon Confirmed For 'Pokémon Pokopia' In Stylish New Preview

Polygon RSS FeedPatricia Hernandez2 min read(about 3 hours ago)

Overview & Key Takeaways

Switch 2 owners who purchase the Pokopia Expansion Pass have much to look forward to in the DLC according to the recent Nintendo DIrect

With Bubbly Basin in the rear-view mirror, Pokémon Pokopia is gearing players up for the cozy game's next DLC update. Koei Tecmo and Game Freak have been teasing the game's accessory-focused update for a while, but Wednesday's Nintendo Direct offered a better look at the DLC in action.

The new trailer features cosmetics like bows, sunglasses, ribbons, and ties. Fittingly, the model for the new sunglasses was none other than the water starter from Pokémon Red and Blue. Now Pokopia players can bring the Squirtle Squad back to life! The promo images for the DLC also show things like detachable wings, so this is likely not an exhaustive list of new items.

The footage also showcased some of the additional monsters coming to the cutesy building game. The new Pokémon include Doduo (Normal-type), Skitty (Normal-type), and Braixen (Fire-type) — but there are other critters that weren't shown in the video, according to the narrator in the trailer.

At the end of the Pokémon Pokopia trailer, there's some fine print cautioning players that the second wave of DLC will not introduce a new town. A new explorable area is being saved for the third and final part of the Expansion Pass, which is scheduled to release sometime in 2027. The more focused second DLC will release sometime in late 2026, Nintendo says. To play it, fans will need to purchase the $34.99 Expansion Pass. In addition to the existing Bubbly Basin DLC, which introduces a new underwater area, the Expansion Pass grants players a new recipe for dynamic Ditto block prints as well as 30 rare Pokémetal ingots.

Bubbly Basin released in early August, and while it didn't shake up the core formula, it did give a much-needed spotlight to the fish Pokémon that are often overlooked by the series.

Pokémon Pokopia is available now on Nintendo Switch 2. In Polygon's review of the game, we praised its charm and setting, writing, "If you can find the patience for its litany of tedious chores and slowpoke pacing, Pokémon Pokopia serves as an earnest reminder to nurture our world and all the little things in it."

Switch 2’s 40th-Anniversary Console Sells Out Immediately, And Guess What Happened Next

Nintendo's new 40th-anniversary Zelda-themed Switch 2 console went on sale on September 8, the same day it was announced, and it sold out immediately. I bet you can guess what happened next. Listings for the $520 limited-edition console popped up on eBay the same day, with sellers hoping to make tidy profits. There are numerous listings on eBay asking for $800(https://www.ebay.com/itm/820106755452?skw=Switch+2+zelda+console&itmmeta=01M23E4X8G5CFER3MBTA0VKJ79&hash=itembef22bfd7c:g:oXcAAeSwAvhqoX0s&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA8GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xAyrEhx4S9zTekZ5xHSLhDJyhJui2vxUt2xjT25R7QLxvMdoqg%2FSpbzRgQoZXIw0qsSJGFNuqVv3mNvc28v7wUhzZSShMvCRd9k3utBYF%2FB5HNYKAXvjQpNBvgAkLD%2BwFG4yPQkYDsRkQCKKiXReHoFutNHNGiNR9jrBYvFcFipj9klSyyHmBKdIA9Yl3jLTL6m%2B9EpQCPydhgqbB56NeVCfpXupqk3bV42c7f6pDZh72YaB3GQkKIQ2MbLEqcGIJV3V3lYMi8ewGpRoX6GZCp6UFXk90CB4xBW5kZgjtCYAQ%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMstST7pBo) and $850(https://www.ebay.com/itm/128070712226?skw=Switch+2+zelda+console&itmmeta=01M23E4X8G1NZGGDKA51YDVQG5&hash=item1dd19bfba2:g:BS8AAeSwehhqoXLm&itmprp=enc%3AAQALAAAA8GfYFPkwiKCW4ZNSs2u11xA5z30MtsRR%2BTNFZVxPTUN66ZxnjGFSaLQpJFXehkFBL0dtX8nX5W%2BnL%2FdB4UGa1VBlz7rGnXQQxfXX5ortCK8IjQSDDz8GZ9D3Kbst4n9YBiaBP7UsIKL7qvoPgOYyKl0RFglP%2FQTUMvr426W%2FfRrE83L1lGNvnVB%2FzUTQesZGdEcrgSPj7Z9q3En%2Fq%2BuMaH8qdafKCpu2ZwSC%2B4W%2B%2BkQdm1TXB0hvC3MWNRBe7qCLFITc%2Be1hDqYx656hlds4abF%2B1gBoeP1s9JkJUXB8tlhcV49p%2FMaTEYgvehsnzR43Iw%3D%3D%7Ctkp%3ABFBMstST7pBo)--that's about 50% more than the list price. It appears there is a single seller account offering five different units, so this is very clearly a scalping scenario, and it may run afoul of eBay's own rules(https://www.ebay.com/help/policies/listing-policies/presale-listings-policy?id=4252). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ymw9UTRu1V0 This kind of thing is pretty normal, as people are known to take advantage of a limited-edition product to make some money on the demand. The Zelda console releases on October 29 as part of Nintendo's celebration of the franchise's 40th anniversary. The console sports a spiffy black-and-gold design, featuring the Triforce design as well. Nintendo is also selling anniversary editions of the Switch 2 Pro controller and a Switch 2 carrying case, both of which also feature the Triforce design. The Pro controller ($100) also sold out. The Switch 2 Zelda system has been described as being a limited-edition, so it remains to be seen if Nintendo will replenish stock soon, or ever. The next Zelda game is The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time's remake, which releases on November 6 for Switch 2. The game features a lot of significant changes from the 1998 original, and the internet had some thoughts(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/the-internet-reacts-to-zelda-ocarina-of-times-changes/).
