Fable Will Officially Be 20 Hours Long, Xbox Confirms In New Interview

Overview & Key Takeaways

We learned how long it will take to beat Fable, although Playground Games noted that the life sim components are ‘limitless.'

At Gamescom, Polygon learned just how long it will take players to beat Fable, the upcoming RPG from Playground Games and Xbox Game Studios, when it launches next year. Unlike some other RPGs, don't expect to spend hundreds of hours in Albion unless you're really interacting with the game's life sim components.

Fable's main story is reasonably sized

RPGs can range in size and scope, so the question of how long Fable will be came up during a group Q&A attended by Polygon at Gamescom 2026. We learned that it'll take roughly 20 hours to beat the main story. The developers also teased that completing all of Fable's side content and engaging with the previously teased NPC interactions could extend that play time even further.

"We have around 15-20 hours of mainline quest gameplay, we have around 15-20 of side and open-world exploration content gameplay," associate game director Will Kennedy told Polygon. "And then, of course, the life systems are limitless, so you can play them for as long as you want."

Someone else in the group Q&A said that Fable is"not a huge game" in response to Kennedy's answer, which causedanother associate game director from Playground Games, Craig Littler, to chime in. "As Will just said, you can literally play it forever if that's what you want to do," Littler reiterated.

Ultimately, it looks like this will be the kind of RPG that gives back as much as you put into it. If you just want to experience the story and then stop playing, it won't take you long to complete it. If you're the kind of player who wants to explore every nook and cranny of this new rendition of Albion and make sure every NPC either loves or hates you, then you'll be playing Fable for significantly longer.

Fable will be released on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X on Feb. 27, 2027.

Xbox’s New TCL Partnership Couldn’t Come At A Worse Time

Xbox has announced a new partnership with TCL, which will see the Xbox app added to "select" models from the brand. This means that owners of those TCL TVs won't need to spend $500 on an Xbox Series S or $800 on an Xbox Series X, as they can instead take advantage of the cloud-based gaming features offered as part of a monthly Xbox Game Pass subscription--but only for a few hours per month(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/game-pass-is-getting-worse-and-more-expensive/), before they need to start coughing up some extra cash to buy more hours to play. If your TCL TV is supported, all you'll need is a Game Pass subscription and an Xbox controller to start playing. Xbox Game Pass also offers a library of games to play, so you'll be good to go once you're signed up and logged in. As a reminder, you'll only get a few hours of cloud streaming depending on which tier of Game Pass you sign up for. The cheapest option, Game Pass Essential, will give you five hours of cloud streaming; Game Pass Premium doubles that number to 10 hours, and Game Pass Ultimate caps out at 15 hours. Pricing for top-up cloud streaming packages has not yet been announced. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN1JlrG2esw This announcement also comes during a busy time for Xbox, as its next big first-party game is Gears of War: E-Day. It arrives after a busy year for the gaming brand, which saw 75 day-one releases(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-kept-at-least-one-big-promise-in-its-most-tumultuous-year-ever/) through its subscription program. More Game Pass titles are also on the way in Septembe(https://www.gamespot.com/articles/xbox-game-pass-in-september-expands-with-seven-new-games/)r, with Speedrunners 2 and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War headlining the first wave of new arrivals. TCL TVs are typically positioned as budget-to-mid-range sets, which could potentially give Xbox exposure to millions of consumers who wouldn't normally buy one of their expensive consoles. The Azure servers that Xbox uses for streaming games belong to its parent company, Microsoft, and these have started to turn a tidy profit for the company. Microsoft recently reported(https://www.reuters.com/business/retail-consumer/microsoft-reveal-azure-cloud-sales-financial-reporting-shift-2026-09-02/) $29.4 billion in Azure server sales for the last quarter, but Amazon Web Services still eclipses those numbers with $42.2 billion in quarterly revenue.
