Mod activates split-screen support in Halo: Campaign Evolved PC that's just sitting there, unused

Overview & Key Takeaways

Come on, Halo Studios.

The PC is the best way to play the new Halo: Campaign Evolved remake, as well as almost every other Halo, except for one glaring flaw: no split-screen, for some reason. Xbox and PS5 get it, but PC is locked to online co-op only.

Ten years ago, that's an omission that might've gone unnoticed by most, but the rise of living room PCs and local game streaming has made split-screen more relevant than ever on the platform. It's dumb and a little insulting that Halo Studios short-shrifted us on this one, but modders are here to help.

Enter mod "Halo Campaign Evolved Split-screen Coop" by Jpurd123 on Nexus. According to the description, this tweak (which Jpurd made with AI, for the record), activates code already existing within the PC remake that enables local split-screen. If accurate, that means the PC version of Campaign Evolved does support local play, but Halo Studios didn't turn it on.

Once hacked in, split-screen can be activated by a simple keyboard shortcut before starting a session. Comments on the mod page suggest it works pretty well as long as you follow the steps exactly as described.

Now, the caveats: This only supports two player split-screen for now, which sucks because 4-player co-op is a big feature of this remake. The mod was only tested with the Steam version of Campaign Evolved, so those playing through PC Game Pass or the Microsoft Store (which is where my copy came from) might be out of luck. Folks are also saying that split-screen only works if both players use controllers—trying to mix KBM and controllers makes the keyboard take over both screens, weirdly.

So yea, it's a finicky little mod. Given its AI makeup, who knows if it'll be improved over time, but it's a good sign that useful tweaks like this are popping up within a day of the remake's full rollout. It took a lot longer for folks to figure out split-screen solutions to the older Halos through Master Chief Collection (which also got left out of split-screen on PC).

!(https://assetsio.gnwcdn.com/mortal-shell-2-standing-in-desolate-keep.jpg?width=690&quality=85&format=jpg&auto=webp) The Desolate Keep, hidden away behind an illusory wall in the Marrow Keep, is one of the most intriguing dungeons it's possible to find in Mortal Shell 2(https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/games/mortal-shell-2). It may not be the longest dungeon in the game, but it's likely the most layered, with multiple secret passages, and more than a few nods to one of the oldest and most iconic levels in gaming. It's also far more challenging than most areas you can find in Fainweald, which is why we've left it until now to tackle. But now, it's time. Below I'll walk you through exactly how to 100% the Desolate Keep, revealing every secret with easy to follow, step-by-step instructions. With everything else in Fainweald now conquered, it's time for us to journey to these far north reaches and cleanse the land of its last scant bits of corruption. Below, I've put together an easy to follow step-by-step guide to the entire region of the Sanguine Caverns, including every dungeon, every foe and boss encounter, and every tucked away valuable item - of which there are several in this area of Fainweald! The Blood of Dawnwalker: All endings explained

!(https://assetsio.gnwcdn.com/TBODCoenEnding.jpg?width=690&quality=85&format=jpg&auto=webp) The Blood of Dawnwalker(https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/games/the-blood-of-dawnwalker) has one main goal for Coen – to save his family. You spend 30 days (and nights) figuring out your best defence against Brencis, levelling up skills, collecting armour and teaming up with allies. But it turns out defeating him isn't the only way to get everyone home safe. In fact, sometimes defeating him might still lead to the demise of your nearest and dearest. I played through the game's four full story endings to see what would happen and, unfortunately, it's bad news for Lunka at almost every turn. There's also three additional early endings you can try on for size, which we'll cover at the end. In this guide I'll fully explain how to get all endings in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and what can happen to your family along the way in each case.
